Did the Dad sound/look fake to you?

I didn't get that vibe from him. I could be wrong.

Looks like we'll soon see. CNN is saying the kid will be interviewed by police on Friday. Looks like that had him meet with a child psychologist before talking to police at all. Here a link with some updates.

Have you ever stop to think that he might be SCARED? The young man was barricaded in a barrel, would you not be scared? Instead of finding out you start with    what is the kid is up to, is he deaf, is he mute, unable to write. Don't you think that it would be better to wait and see before you start wondering and coming to conclusions? Like always, TONGUE FLAPS BEFORE BRAIN ACTIVATES.

Yes, I said I wondered what the kid was up to because apparently he HID on purpose, in a place that had been thoroughly searched, even by the fbi. He's healthy with no signs of abuse or neglect. So, yes, what's up? No one knows what's up with any of it yet, but kids do some strange things. It's not an indictment against the kid. They don't/aren't able, to think things through like adults, because they are kids

I agree Nancy Grace can be scary. I wouldn't want to be interviewed by her. LOL

I think the dad was just shocked. Like I said earlier I may be wrong. Who really knows at this point?

Stay tuned.

LAL, Sorry if I have offended you. This is a thread on an internet forum. People ask questions. People give opinions. That's what happens on the internet.

Chill out a little.

LAL, this is the second time I have seen you misquote something. While I’m not bashing you for it or being rude to you, maybe you should activate your own brain before you flap your tongue. Seven was speaking of the Father when he said “I think the dad was just shocked”.  Are you speaking of the child or the Father when you said he might be scared?

You said the young man was barricaded IN a barrel, but I haven’t seen any article that said that. In one article it said, “According to the police, Charlie Bothuell was found barricaded BEHIND boxes and a large 55-gallon drum. Another article said "We found him barricaded in the basement, BEHIND boxes and a large ... drum”.

I didn’t see anything that said inside a drum, only behind a drum [& boxes].

What's wrong with our asking questions as Seven did? The entire story is suspicious, which raises questions. Our questions aren't near as "bad" if you want to call them that, as your misquoting news stories.

I would like to thank you for keeping up with my mistakes for I need someone that is perfect to show them to  me.  I was talking about the young man being SCARED and if you had paid attention to what you were reading beside looking for mistakes you could see that

I was talking about the young man.  I am so glad that the tnvalleytalks have you to correct everyone. You have been on here a long time, was you the one who started the tvt? But anyway I hope that you remain on here to see that there are not anymore mistakes that are not noticed.

Not hard to catch a mistake when someone accuses another of FLAPPING his TONGUE BEFORE his BRAIN ACTIVATES when that person actually misquoted the news article being discussed. I noticed you didn't address that little tidbit. I found it odd you mentioned the young man being scared when Seven was talking about the Father.

I made the distinction that I wasn't bashing you or being rude to you, just pointing out a couple of things. Hope you have a wonderful week-end.

I was putting in my own thoughts, I was not to Seven or anyone else. As for as the misquote it was in with the mistakes the reason I did not address it. Fine, Seven was talking about the Father, I was talking about the young man. Hope that you have a great week-end also, I will have the best week-end that I can have for my days are very very hard to have. Either way things will come out about the why and reasons about the young man.

Good grief! This kid is old enough to speak up & say who put him there!

Watch the video. Do you think this Father was putting on an act?

Man it's hard to tell. Parts seem as fake as everything, parts seem real. I just don't know. He looked more surprised, IMO, that the boy was alive, then surprised at where he was found.

A 12-year-old Detroit boy who was missing for more than a week before he was discovered in his own basement told investigators his stepmother sent him there, according to a court record obtained Friday by a newspaper.

The petition, filed in Wayne County juvenile court by Children's Protective Services as part of a custody hearing, was obtained by the Detroit Free Press. A court employee told The Associated Press a petition was filed Friday, but it was not released to the public or the media.

According to the Free Press, the document says Charlie Bothuell V was placed in the basement behind boxes and totes by his stepmother, Monique Dillard-Bothuell, and told "not to come out, no matter what he hears."

Although Dillard-Bothuell knew her stepson was in the basement, she did not bring him food, according to the petition, which also says: "Charlie reports sneaking upstairs to get food when everyone left the home."

Charlie was found Wednesday by Detroit police in the bowels of the multiple-unit condo building where he lived with Dillard-Bothuell and his father, Charlie Bothuell IV. He was evaluated at a hospital and returned to his mother, police spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens said.

The AP left messages Friday with Dillard-Bothuell, Charlie Bothuell IV and Bothuell's lawyer, Mark Magidson.

Authorities removed the boy's two younger siblings -- 4 years old and 10 months old -- from the custody of Dillard-Bothuell and Charlie Bothuell IV.

The document obtained by the Free Press also says Bothuell disclosed on Monday that he disciplined his son with a PVC pipe.

The petition says that after Charlie was taken to a hospital for treatment, a doctor observed a half-circular scar on the boy's chest. Charlie says the scar was "a result of his father driving a PVC pipe into his chest," according to the petition, which also says the child had old scars on his buttocks from being hit with the pipe.

Bothuell has denied abusing his son. Magidson also denied that a pipe was used to beat Charlie.

A warrant request in connection with the case has not been turned over to the Wayne County prosecutor's office, spokeswoman Maria Miller said.

According to The Detroit News, Magidson said child abuse charges are likely to be filed against Bothuell.

Dillard-Bothuell was arrested Thursday on a probation violation related to a misdemeanor gun charge. In court Friday, Dillard-Bothuell was ordered to wear a tether. She's due back in court July 11. Magidson said her arrest was "highly disingenuous."

The boy's father, who made tearful television pleas for help while his son was missing, has said he had no idea the boy was in the basement. Bothuell reported his son missing June 14. The boy had been working out at home about 9 p.m., went to use the restroom and never returned, Bothuell told police.

Officers searched the home on at least three occasions before they stumbled across the boy apparently hiding behind boxes and a large plastic drum in the basement Wednesday afternoon. Police have said they do not believe the boy had been there the whole time.

So sad. Thanks for the info.

Here again, this child had family. How did this go on with no one knowing or suspecting? The story just gets crazier.

***************************************************

DETROIT (AP) — A 12-year-old Detroit boy found in his basement after a widely publicized 11-day search was abused by his father and stepmother and forced to rise before dawn for intense workouts of 100 pushups and even more situps, according to Michigan's child-welfare agency.

Detailed allegations of physical and mental abuse were filed this week as the state tries to terminate the parental rights of Charlie Bothuell IV. The state also wants to end the parental rights of Monique Dillard-Bothuell, the boy's stepmother and mother of two other children. No criminal charges have been filed.

The boy, Charlie Bothuell V, "has experienced physical abuse by his father ... for the entire two years he has resided in Mr. Bothuell's residence," the Department of Human Services said in a court filing. "The abuse included being physically disciplined with a PVC pipe on his butt, feet, chest, head, thighs, sides and arms. ... He was often too sore to sit or walk."

Charlie was found by police in the basement of his family's condominium on June 25, more than a week after he was reported missing. His father, a nurse, had made tearful pleas on TV for his son's return and later said he was "shocked" when the boy was found in the basement.

But Charlie told caseworkers that his stepmother ordered him there on June 14 because she believed he had not completed one of his twice-a-day workouts: 100 pushups, 200 situps, 100 jumping jacks, 25 arm curls with a 25-pound weight and thousands of revolutions on an elliptical machine.

Charlie said his stepmom told him, "Shut up, stay quiet and don't say anything no matter what you hear!"

He said she told him at times, "I know where the sharp knives are. ... I can make you disappear."

A court hearing to end the couple's parental rights began Thursday and will resume July 17 after lawyers get more documents from the state. Charlie, meanwhile, is living with his mother; two step-siblings, ages 4 and 11 months, have been placed with relatives.

Dillard-Bothuell's attorney, Mark Magidson, said the claim that she ordered the boy to the basement is "ridiculous."

"There's no child abuse," Magidson told reporters. "Was there corporal punishment on some occasions? There may have been. Once all the evidence is out, you'll understand why."

As for the workouts, Magidson said Charlie was overweight when he moved in with his father, and diabetes runs in the Bothuell family.

Bothuell's attorney, Stephanie Carson, declined to comment when reached by phone.

Charlie told investigators that he heard police officers come to the home while he was in the basement. When the condo was quiet, he said he went upstairs for Gatorade, soda, protein shakes and dry cereal.
