MISSING PMs

Hi,

Last week a member sent me a PM asking about the practice of speaking in tongues. I got busy and could not respond right away. Then, when I went back to respond -- it had disappeared.

As a matter of fact, at least two have disappeared that I remember.

Why does this happen? Can a person who sent you a PM, then go into your Private Message area and delete it after it is sent? I am confused.

Can anyone explain this to me?

The originator of the PM can delete it.

Bill, a poster can't go into your PM & delete it. When that poster deletes his PM, it deletes it out of yours too.

Hi Taciturn,

That must be what happened. That is weird though. You would think that once it gets into your PM, it would stay. But, maybe they figure that sometimes we might send a PM, then change our mind. So this gives us a "do over" mode.

It must be that; for there would be no reason for the mods to delete the message. It was a legitimate question.

The mods won't look at a PM unless the poster of the PM asked them to for some reason.
If you start a PM, no one can delete it but you.

That's happened to me. Someone sent me an avatar last Christmas, I think. I had a very sick patient and didn't try to save it at the time. When I went back it was gone.

So, don't delete just because you didn't get an immediate answer. The recipient might be, and probably is, intending to get back to you later.
