GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A Gwinnett County man and woman were hospitalized early Saturday morning after allegedly being severely beaten by their two sons.

The incident happened at the family's home on the 3000 block of Forbes Trail in unincorporated Snellville just before 8 a.m.

The mother, Yvonne Ervin, called 911 and said her sons were trying to kill both her and her husband, Zachary Ervin. The call eventually went silent.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found Zachary severely injured and bleeding heavily. Yvonne was also seriously injured.

Officers took the two sons into custody. They have been identified as 22-year-old Christopher Ervin and 17-year-old Cameron Ervin. Both are being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center and are facing charges of aggravated assault and 1st degree arson.

Instead of having a first appearance in a courtroom Sunday, a judge visited each son separately in their jail cells. Both of them are being held in isolation.

Neighbors in the area said they can't believe what happened because this was a model family.

"Definitely very polite young men," said neighbor Clinton Miller. "That's the last thing I would have expected out of those kids. I hope they understand that their parents gave them everything they could."

Officers also detected a strong natural gas smell when entering the home. The Gwinnett County Fire Department was brought in to check the residence for safety. Police said the two sons may have been trying to start a fire by releasing the natural gas into the house.

The incident remains under investigation.

Is this normal procedure? Why would they not appear in a courtroom? Is this an indication that they may not be punished & will get off?

It's not an indication at all that they will be let off. It sounds like the Judge

might want a better understanding of who he'll be dealing with in court.

Can't imagine Why someone justifies doing this type of Act on your Parents...unless parents had been torturing them in some way.... But for Insurance Money??? If that's the case, What were you thinking??? Dumb Azz..

Maybe, judge wanted to find out for himself, Who instigated the Act and who did the worst abuse to the Parents..

Who really knows? I know people who had awesome parents who taught their kids right from wrong and they ended up doing stuff like this.

IMHO it all comes down to personal choices. Individual choices.

'Who does that?'

Police said the sons were immediately arrested, and when an officer went to check on Cameron Ervin in the squad car, the teen told the officer, "Just kill me now," the incident report said.

"I asked him why would I want to do that," the officer wrote in the report. "He stated, 'I tried to kill my f***ing parents. Who does that?' I told him to try to relax and I would talk to him in a few."

As brutal as the attack sounds, that wasn't the full extent of it, according to police. The sons also plotted to burn the home down, and had "introduced natural gas into the house," Long said.

Yvonne Ervin called 911 and reported that she and husband Zachary were being attacked by their own sons.
