I have to agree with you. The problem is not that simple. People ride on the streets, in the alleys and malls just like it was their own property. I have folks 6 and younger riding their "little" machines on the main roads right beside their parents that are riding their big machines. So you tell them as they are older that their adventure is not permitted, they will run over you or whip you or threaten you. I have been told to mind my own business.
And I would be one of the people making complaints, I wonder if or when the TPD is going to get tired of me calling to report people tearing up the bottom just west of Spring Park. These people fly down the narrow roads and get off doing donuts in the grass. The bottom area is a nice place but these punks are tearing it up daily and are making it dangerous. There have been many instances where my kids have had to run back off the road from people flying through there. They do not stop at the stop signs and last year one one of them swerved to hit my neighbors dog, my neighbor tried to yell something to the kids and one yelled back "that's right, I hit him B!+C#."
I could go on all day with instances where these idiots are tearing up the bottom and making it dangerous for everyone. The bottom area (AKA dust bowl)has become a place where kids congregate for drinking, almost any morning you can see people making drug buys down there, and then of course there is the problem with people "muddin" down there.

The police try to help, it's just by the time they get there the people are usually gone but there have been a few times they have gotten there in time. The incident mentioned in the article where the truck was down there doing donuts with several kids in the back of the truck I tried to call TPD but was put on hold.
There is no organized neighborhood watch but some of my neighbors are quite vigilant in watching out for the area, I call the police for the worst stuff I see but most of the time think "oh well, they'll be gone before they could get here anyway.
I've noticed the problem down there, it's a nice place to take the kids fishing and let them run around at least it once was. Now I am scared to let the kids run loose in the area because it isn't uncommon for people in trucks to tear across the field at high speeds, the area around the bridge is regularly littered with beer cans and condoms. Not exactly a family oriented location.
I was at the park with my wife and 2yr old for several hours Friday evening. We rode the train around the park 4 times. Within the actual park, I didn't see any litter (certainly not beer cans and condoms). There were plenty of teenagers, as there plenty of small children, none of which were tearing up anything. Are you guys referring to another area of the park? Or did everything just happen to be cleaned up when I was there?
Anyone tearing up public property...especially with 4x4 vehicles, motorcycles, etc...should be made to repair/patch their damage to the property...*******es like these have destroyed a common area in my neighborhood, making it unusable by anyone else.

I just didn't notice anything in Spring Park proper that would deem it anything other than 'family oriented'.
Robc, ma'am, you sound like a nice person. But just when the word B**t**h came out..thats when it gets time for a little vigilante work, maybe we could call it proactive neighorhood watch if that sounds better...They stole my dog and sold it in Mississippi at flea market...they stole my neighbor's lawn mower, and keyed an old truck he had he spent a lot of his hard-earned money and a lot of elbow greese working on...police did what they could, but then we used a couple of paint ball guns and a 3,500 Lumen night light a couple of times and had no trouble since.....It doesn't hurt that they think there's a couple of crazy ol' fools on that street..

Unfortunatly when the kids ran over the neighbors dog (which was obviously on purpose, they swerved off the road on the wrong side to hit him) I was out in the yard. If there had been a chance to catch them I would have and could have used the "I'm older and have more insurance" line. Anyway, they were going pretty fast and no way I could have gotten to my truck before they were out of sight.
Maybe I should try acting a little crazy to scare them away, my house could be the one where kids stand at the end of the street and double dog dare each other to walk into the crazy old mans yard.
I wish there was someway I could help...there's no sense in this stuff going on...it takes away any feeling of sense of security that you have in your own home....my neighbor and I were pushed to a point and just decided to fight back. I wish you could have gotten in your truck and bumped them a couple of times like ol Towanda did!!!! Keep us posted on your situation...and dont be surprised if two old guys show up wearing boonie hats and camaflouged britches...[ u might rather have the kids]
Sorry to drag up old news, but the idiots are at it again. It actually got a little better for a while with just the occasional punk tearing up the area but this weekend we had several and one of the inbred morons who drives a little white SUV seems to like to show up every day to fly through the area while kids are playing and do a few donuts, then he's gone before the police get there. Hopefully the police will be able to get there in time to catch him soon.
The area to the west of Spring Park is really nice, too bad a few stupid rednecks have to come down and screw it all up.

Yeah because they can be everywhere all the time anticipating every crime Roll Eyes

A "recurring" event within city limits should be doable...don't ya think?

BTW...your reply is the 'standard' response for being incompetent...well over used! Wink

But then again...the culprit could just be Tony Logan trying to get home! Big Grin

Oooooohhh I know. It's a cover-up. That seems to be your standard response for being gullible. And as far as the "recurring" part, it was over a period of one weekend. Sounds like a terrible crime spree to me.
The Tuscumbia Police do a pretty good job, a lot of the time by the time I see what is going on, grab my phone, call, and the couple or three minutes it takes them to get here...they are already gone but sometimes they get here to catch them in the act.
It is a recurring problem though, the “one weekend” is one weekend in several months that it has really gotten bad (like where it was more than one person and some of the time while others were down there. I would take a jab that 3 weeks does not go by without seeing at least one redneck down there tearing up the dustbowl area.

So let me see if I have the times right. It occurs one time every few weeks with exception of one really bad weekend? I am not saying it is no big deal, I just disagree with a certain poster about the police not being needed because they aren't in Spring Park the one exact time in three weeks that someone tears up the dust bowl. Hopefully luck will befall the police soon or a citizen as concerned as you can get a tag number to help the process.

Or better yet, increase patrols in the area, talk to some kids, I'm sure you can get information to stop this.

But wait...thats the polices' job isn't it? According to some, it is their job to make excuses such as..."we can't be everywhere all the time". No one asked you to be "everywhere" just do your job and get the necessary info to stop this action and stop making excuses!

For a while it was a huge problem, one of my neighbors and me were fairly vigilant about it and it got better but didn't exactly go away, as of last week the nuisance started getting worse again. People were doing it yesterday too.
I'm not just a concerned citizen, I live there. And it's not just the donuts people are doing in the grass, these idiots come flying in off Hook St and at times might stay on the road and other times they just take off across the Church's field. This kind of stuff has happened while my kids were out there. At night, a lot of them turn off their headlights as soon as they turn off Hook St and put the gas to the floor. What they are doing is a danger for people that live in the area and a danger for those that come to the west end of Spring Park for legitimate recreation.
I think they are stepping up patrols, I'll grab a tag number when I can but a lot of the time that means chasing them down.

First, I don't work in Tuscumbia so you can tell it to someone else. It doesn't matter what I say you will never listen so I will leave it you just don't know what you are talking about.

So let Tuscumbia PD know when the perp will be there and I'm sure they will be waiting. How about just narrowing it down to an hour time frame?

Oh, you want them to post an officer at that location 24/7/365 until the perp's caught?

Hmm, seems like quite a waste of taxpayer funds for someone driving in the grass.

Don't put an officer down there 24/7, can't afford that. Just put a couple of traffic cams in.
