Believe me, this poor player/rich player thing isn't at all new. It's been that way at MSHS since I attended and I graduated in 1983. I had a boyfriend who was a star quarterback at his previous high school (which was 3x larger than MSHS). His father's job moved them from there to Muscle Shoals and the coach at the time REFUSED to give him any playing time because the incumbent quarterback (who was not nearly as good) was the son of a prominent Muscle Shoals business man and a HUGE school booster.
But then, MSHS has been that way about EVERYTHING since it was founded. The kids from the rich/influential families in Muscle Shoals have always gotten preferential treatment, in sports or anything else. The so-called service clubs which were in place were nothing more than popularity contests. Who ever heard of having to be voted into a service club? If they were true to their charter, it should be the more the merrier. Sadly, that's always been the culture at MSHS and probably always will be since the "golden children" from my time are now the parents of the current "golden children".
bingo you hit it on the head...The school boosters play a huge role in the athletic program..Unfortunately most of the school boosters are rich with rich kids on the football team ..hence we get this favoritism..
