Actually, Jen, I'm curious too. Big Grin
The majority here don't mind telling what religion/church they belong to.

You should read about the Mormons. The things they believe/teach is worse than the stuff Bill Gray preaches. Wink
Nothing or no one could be as bad as bill. I know Mormons, been around them plenty of times. Haven't you? One of our vendors is a Mormon. He's not weird in any way that I've ever seen.

To "know Mormons" and to have "been around Mormons" does not necessarily qualify you as knowing anything about the wild and crazy nonsense of their homespun and heretical theology. You also should read the Tanner's book that I have repeatedly recommended to WINDSONG

Mormons believe a Mormon human being can eventually progress to a state equal to that of God Himself. They teach that God was once a human being. Read up on that kind of stuff in the Tanner's book and from plenty of other sources as well. This bunch of decidedly un-Christian blasphemers is not just another denomination. You definitely need to get more information on them before you make such blanket statements of praise for these cultists. Wise up!

It doesn't matter what they believe. What you believe is just as rediculous. The Mormons I've had contact with are normal people just like anyone else you meet. Certainly a lot nicer than some.
As you know, I don't always agree with Jen, but I find myself agreeing with her once again on this topic.

I know Mormons, and they're usually pretty nice, family oriented people. I wouldn't be one for five million bucks, but that's just me.

When one believes that god created mankind out of dust, subjected us to irresistible temptation, punished us for succumbing to it, and sent himself to Earth to be tortured and killed (but not really) just for the possibility of avoiding Original Sin, one is in no position to mock even the absurd fantasy that is Joseph Smith's revelations.

Personally, I find Mormonism just a step or two beneath Scientology on the BS meter. It's right down there with the Baptists, and half-notch above the CoC.

Honestly, remove the beam in your eye before you remove the speck from someone else's.

People don't get so shaken up like that over just the mention of a word unless they fear what that word stood for. Maybe the reason they fight it so ferociously is because, in their hearts, no matter how much they want to believe their own religion, they have no knowledge or confirmation that it is true.
Their fight to prove other religions false is actually them trying to prove to themselves that theirs is true.
Must be a horrible state of spiritual well being to be in. Always trying to prove to others that their religion is false because they can't prove, even to themselves that theirs is the only true one
Do you think they are all athiest in Christian costumes because it seems that by their behavior in here none of them believe the Jesus in their own Bible. I mean for real, look how they treat eachother and others that come in here
If they dont act like their Jesus and don't follow his teachings, isn't that the same as denying God?

Pure PSYCHOBABBLE rubbish, WINDBAG! You have gotten out so far on a speculative limb that you are about to fall off. Get closer to the tree, and start by doing just a little research on MORMONISM, about which you profess to know little other than that they are nice people.

Notwithstanding your alleged lack of knowledge about the warped theology of these heretics, you continue to defend them. But you are not persuasive, since all you seem to be doing on here is barfing out one gut reaction after another, with absolutely no substance, no real explication to back up anything. You are a pitifully puny polemicist and a major league complainer and whiner, you poor abused sweet thing!

In summary, you are operating in this forum at barely above a kindergarten level. Your English usage could stand some serious repair also. I am done with you and your puerile tripe. I will seek some dialogue with someone who posts sensible, substantive material. Meanwhile, check out that book you seem afraid to even discuss.

Maybe my other possibility for you has controlled that, since if you are indeed a Mormon, your Stake President would advise against reading such enlightening material. But I am not waiting for you to come clean, WINDBAG. And I shall address you no more. Fare thee well!!!

I must have not used enough Novocaine when doing that root canal, I think I hit a nerve.

I'm not saying they're bad/weird people. I know a couple of them that's very nice. Just that some of the things they teach/believe is as far fetched as the stuff in the Bible.

And you're right. No one can be as bad as Bill.

fare–thee–well noun \ˈfer-(ˌ)thē-ˌwel\
Definition of FARE-THEE-WELL
1: the utmost degree <researched the story to a fare–thee–well>
2: a state of perfection <imitated the speaker's pompous manner to a fare–thee–well>

You know beternun, you are really quite pathetic. Who do you think you impress? Sad sad little man.

That's my point. No matter how off the wall they are, they are no more ridiculous than others. I'll take the Mormons I know over bill and beternun any day.

You have really asked for it this time, Jennifer. It is you who are pathetic--in your seriously flawed attempt to find fault with my choice of words. Silly amateurish fumbler!

I am responding here, notwithststanding my withdrawal from the Mormon-related part of this string, which your ludicrous foray into lexicography has nothing to do with.

Read things more carefully, pseudo-scholar, and do not mess with beternU on language matters unless you are dead sure you are right, which you definitely are NOT on the silly and inaccurate cavil you have posted.

Your definition is for the hyphenated compound form, "FARE-THEE-WELL" and it is a correct definition. But it is not the definition of the form I used, the non-hyphenated form, which has a very different meaning and which I used correctly. For example:

"Courage my heart take leave and fare thee well" [transl from Hermann Hesse's poem Steps.]

Hesse not your style? Want to quarrel with Byron or Shakespeare on this one?

"Fare thee well! and if for ever,
Still for ever, fare thee well."
- Lord Byron (George Gordon Noel Byron),
Fare Thee Well

"Farewell, my sister, fare thee well.
The elements be kind to thee, and make
Thy spirits all of comfort: fare thee well."
- William Shakespeare, Antony and Cleopatra
(Caesar at III, ii)

Many other examples can be found.

"Fare thee well", used often in English literature and balladry, though not much in popular conversation, simply is a congenial form of saying "goodbye" or "farewell."

Do some research next time and you might not come off looking so inept.

My definition is correct. Again, you impress no one. Are you telling us you used Fare Thee Well intending to leave? What a sad sad little man you are beternun. KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid), you're pathetic. Now if you'll excuse me I must bid thee goodbye and take my leave.
"Forsooth! (and sh!t..) Whatchu talkin' bout Willis?"

Yeah, well for the rest of us who aren't trying desperately to make people think we're smarter than we actually might be-"Bye" works just fine.

If I may answer, the Mormons do not believe in the same God as most of us do. Their belief that they will become a god themselves is so far off base for anyone who confesses Jesus the Christ as the Son of the living God

I've never heard that said of the Mormons before now, but being an atheist that makes as much sense to me as any of the other things people believe.

You addressed not one single point that I made, but simplistically asserted that your definition (for a usage that I did not employ) is correct. Differences of opinion are not settled by asserting irrelevancies. You are exposing both your ignorance and your incompetence n discussion and debate. It is thus you, not I, who are pitiful. .

It's you, you sad sad little man, that is pathetic. Do you talk to people like you post? Do you talk to your family like that? If you do, do they look at you "funny"? Why do you do it here? It's stupid. We KNOW what the words mean. What I can't figure out is why you choose to post like you do. KISS. Norm Crosby and Irwin Cory must have been your heroes when you were younger. Do you dress in velvet suits and lacy shirts too? Do you have a powdered wig?

Will you, perhaps some day, decide to respond to the substance of a topic instead of resorting to cheap, convenient, irrelevant ad hominem attacks that accomplish absolutely nothing except to avoid crafting intelligent comment?

Probably not, given your track record thus far.
