Just in case no one is aware because the national media is completely ignoring our state.

http://www.tennessean.com/

Opryland will be closed indefinitely.
Water was up near Tooties, Bridgestone Arena.

Historic Franklin is almost halfway under water.

If you have boats and can spare the time and money, please come help rescue people. There are still people unaccounted for in certain parts.

It's a nightmare.

Luckily our state and city officials have been amazing so far. We honestly just need able bodies to volunteer and will need financial help with the cleanup.

It's going to cost several BILLION dollars to clean up.

I'm not sure if people realize just how bad it is. Just about everything that draws people to Nashville is flooded.

The stage of the Grand Ole Opry is underwater. Near that is the Opryland Hotel with it's famous indoor gardens, the gardens are destroyed. The huge shopping mall, Opry Mills, that includs Bass Pro Shop, flooded.

Downtown, the water is finally receding. The Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum has flood water in the basement. A lot of irreplaceable artifacts, records, instruments, and documents could be lost. The Schermerhorn's basement is completely flooded. Two Stienway & Sons pianos, parts of the pipe organ, and who knows what else is lost.

I've you've ever strolled along 2nd Avenue downtown, imagine all the businesses on the east side of the street, the side closest to the river. They're all flooded. No idea about damage yet, but it's going to be bad.

LP Field where the Titans play is now a pond. There is also flooding in Bridgestone Arena, where the Preds play as well as numerous big name concerts.

So if you've ever been to Nashville, imagine all the sites you've visited. They are underwater right now. That's not including the loss of life, homes, and businesses. There are thousands of displaced families right now who have lost everything. Not everyone had flood insurance because the waters exceeded the 100 year flood plain.

You can help by giving to the Nashville Red Cross.

Way to get snippy jerk. My neighbors have lost everything.

There are dead people floating around in my parents neighborhood.

I'm originally from the Shoals and moved due to work.

Thank you so much for all of your efforts!

Yes, I would.

I'm pretty sure that the majority of the people who helped out during the Hati disaster weren't there and had never been there. The whole country stepped up to help the Gulf Coast after Katrina. Usually, natural disasters on this scale saturates the media. Afterwards, people step up and volunteer their time or donations regardless of if they are there, had visited there, or not.

For whatever reason, the disaster in Nashville has not gotten the attention it deserves, therefore people don't realize how bad it really is. People who know how bad it is and are able to help are helping. The problem is that so many people don't realize what has happened.

Here is something to think about. I drive this interstate twice a day, every day. This is what my access to Nashville looked like on Saturday.

First, calling names isn't necessary.
Second, you wouldn't be as concerned if you weren't there.
Third, as you've posted in another thread, there are other ways to help besides physical.
Fourth, there's not much you can do for those who have died. It's the families who need support now. I'm pretty sure there will be local(Shoals area) teams up there helping as soon as they're properly prepared and I DO support those teams. You didn't ask, so you wouldn't have known unless I told you.
Fifth, I, too, have had to move because of work. I volunteered for 5 years in the US Navy Submarine Force.
Sixth, thank you for all you're doing. Nashville needs more like you.
I can't even say all the things I am wanting to say on here. I'm delirious.

I'm just on here to cry for any help at all - physical, monetary, supplies.

It's all needed and will be for months.

The governor has estimated this is a multiBILLION dollar cleanup.

My little sister was stranded and evacuated by boat on Sunday. I'm on edge so I'm snappy and I know it and I'm sorry.
I have been on the hands on nashville site and offered myself and boat. They keep sending me generic emails. I have a 21' bass boat that with the big motor will go in about 4' and with the trolling motor 1'. I have GPS and can navigate pretty well. I am willing to help if someone will tell me where I am needed.
Thank you!

I'm sure communication is a little difficult right now. I know there is need so someone will take you up on your offer. We were out in kayaks saving dogs yesterday, so a bass boat would be a dream come true!

Also try Williamson County officials. There were tons of areas near the Harpeth River that were completely submerged.

Thank you for trying at least!

I know the roads are terrible. We haven't been outside of a 10 mile radius, my work is 5 miles away, so I have no idea what the interstates look like now.

It's just so awful.

We're working our butts off but it has felt like the nation is not aware and we're all alone in this.

I'm stuck at work and just trying to let people know that there is definitely need in most parts of Tennessee.

She apologized several posts up. She is stressed, frustrated, and has seen a lot of devastation that she will never be able to un-see. We all might be snippy in the same situation. I will certainly give her a pass under these circumstances. She's doing good work.

I already had a private chat with Tommee and we both reconciled because I realized how snappy I was being.

I never said I was the only person helping. But I am saying we need more people and more resources and more supplies. And we haven't been getting any until this afternoon. This flood started raging on Saturday.

I CANT SAY HOW SORRY I REALLY AM. IM SO EXHAUSTED MY BRAIN IS SWIMMING.

I wish they would let people in to help. We're all doing as much as possible for each other but of course it will never be enough. If and when they do let people in, please consider it if you can.

This is not like Katrina at all.
It's equally devastating.

Cheekwood actually survived for the most part. I have not seen it personally or ventured to the West end.

WSMV was reporting that they were actually going to reopen shortly.

Most people had basement flooding even if their homes were spared, so that might be the case for Cheekwood. They didn't mention anything about artwork.

I do know the Symphony and Country Music Hall of Fame and the Bridgestone Arena had some pretty extensive flooding to basements and the first floor.

It's about knee deep on the Arena floor.

I understand anyone being frustrated, especially being in her situation. Being snippy is one thing but name calling is another. Frowner

Again, I am appologizing and I am profusely sorry. I already personally appologized and chatted with the person I was invovled with.

Yesterday was so so traumatic and just exhausting.

I don't know how else to appologize to you other than maybe calling you personally?
I'm willing to do that if that is what it takes.

I just want my neighbors to get any and all help that they can. They deserve it so much. It's not about me at all. I'm just trying to be a messenger.

Please forgive for my previous transgressions. I could delete my posts, but I will leave them along with my appologies just so everyone realizes that I'm sorry and I know I screwed up.
Rock n Roll,I understand how devastated you feel and sympathize with the situation, however authorities cannot allow civilians living outside that area to come in and help for fear that the rescuers may get hurt themselves.I have seen news footage where they reported that the National Guard was being sent in to help with rescue and clean-up. I agree it has not been covered on the news near enough, they should run footage of the flooding along the bottom or top of t.v screens like they do for weather alerts.Keith Urban was on CNN yesterday and said benefit concerts would begin as soon as the waters recede. A lot of country music stars lost part or all of their equipment because they had it stored at a nearby storage area that was flooded.

Again I appreciate your efforts and you should continue to publicize this tragedy, but please do not encourage people to bring boats and help rescue until local authorities have deemed if safe for civilians to do so.

Tomme73, I have noticed you continually cut others down in your post, I think you are just plain mean and rude.

Semiannualchick, why are you sooo concerned about Tomme73, if he/she can dish it out then they should be man/woman enough to take whats thrown back at them, I personally do not feel Rock owes anyone apologies
Thanks Ms. wonka,

I said it grimly in a previous post that extra boats were probably needed Sunday-Monday, but at this point, everyone who has drowned has already done so - that includes animals too.

At this point, we are waiting for water to recede to begin cleanup. It already is in some areas.

There are still thousands without power on the West side of Nashville (Belle Meade, Bellevue, Pasquo) and will be for along time, so those people are in great need of non-perishable food items.

The whole area of Nashville is on the brink of losing our water supply. We are tapping into our reserves as I speak, so while we have water now. Next week, we probably will not. And even if our second plant begins working again, it will take a few days until we are back up to normal and they can supply enough for everyone.

So water water water and cleaning supplies (gloves for safety, bleach, mops/towels, soap, anything to clean up mold really...) and dry cardboard boxes/storage bins for salvaged items are THE biggest ways to help right now.

If you can't physically deliver or ship. A good idea would be sending gift cards to Walmart or Target or Costco so people can go buy those types of supplies. (Just an idea?!? and it would save on shipping costs). I'm sure churches might start mobilizing in the Shoals area but I haven't heard anything yet.

I-65 is open but I just imagine it will be pretty secure for a while, so I wouldn't recommend anyone just jump up and drive up here. Definitely call around and get clearances from Red Cross/HON if you are set on getting up here to physically help or deliver.

We definitely don't need boats anymore. We're way past that point.

They are still finding dead people in the receding water, so we just need a lot of prayers and a lot of help spreading the word that this wasn't just a little flash flooding...

www.hon.org will being mobilizing volunteers as soon as they know exactly what needs to be done. The damage is tremendous so I'm sure they are still assessing everything.

Just spreading the word is a major help and will go a long way!!

Here is an awesome site about what you can do from afar.

Tomme73 has offered apologies to whom apologies were needed. I'm not condoning my actions by any means. In the other thread I merely wanted to point out that specific thread was about a specific topic and not about Nashville. There's a method to drawing attention to a subject. RnR was/is very stressed by the situation and I totally understand that. As I've said, I apologized to her and we've hashed that whole mess out. If I offended anyone else, I apologize for that and ask forgiveness.
This might be the only occasion where I've cut someone down who didn't deserve it. I usually try to call it like I see it. If being up front is rude, then. . . I guess I'm rude. As for mean, blame the Navy for that. 5 years dealing with 18 year-olds whose mouths write more checks than their bums can cash will do that to a guy. Trust me, my 5 year-old receives his fair share of my meanness when he gets in trouble at school.

I haven't defended anyone. My point was her calling people names, not just in this topic but also another one.
If you think it's ok to call people names, you're entitled to your opinion. That's a weakness of mine....seeing people called names, no matter if they can dish it out or not.

Yes, I think her apology was heartfelt too, & I didn't mean to cause anymore stress than she's already feeling.

Rock and Roll Means Well, I'm sorry if any of my post upset you. Frowner I know you're sick over what has happened there. Only way I can help is donating money which, I'm told is the best thing to do right now. Red Cross is taking money donations to put it in places/supplies that it's needed.
I wish you the best.
Your right chick,

Any dollar or even penny will help us.

The Mayor is estimating just in Nashville alone the cleanup and restoration will cost $1 Billion.

That doesn't even include Smynra, LaVergne, Franklin or Clarksville.

We appreciate it and it will be put to good use I am certain.

If everyone can also keep spreading the word to friends and family who probably don't know, that helps a TON!

CNN is reporting on us, but a lot of the coverage is aimed at the country stars. So it could appear to the outside world that the Opry House flooded and Brad Paisley's guitar drowned and not much more.

Spreading the MAGNITUDE of what has happened will help us.

Money and bottled water are the two biggest ways to help immediately.
