VERY QUIET NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER! -- Why have we not heard more about today being the National Day Of Prayer?  I am  on the internet a lot, I watch the news; yet, this year, for whatever reason - we had a stealth National Day Of Prayer. 

Why?  Is it because the White House snubs this day of prayer?  We should not allow Obama and his lack of respect for the National Day Of Prayer to determine our enthusiasm for this day.  Why so quiet?

Perhaps because the nation is coming to realize that this nation also belongs to people of other faiths as well as no faith?  i celebrated the nation day of REASON personally.  why must our president, or anyone else , be coerced into cow-towing to your fundamentalist beliefs? 

have your national day of prayer.  pray in the streets, on public property, on the courthouse steps, on the public library and even in front of a mormon church.  i will defend your right to do so. but to expect my government, that represents ALL people of ALL faiths (and lack thereof) is not only against the Constitution but morally corrupt.

As much as it chagrins your Fishy butt -- many Christian believers ARE included in that ALL faiths  you mention -- which includes your atheist religion.  So, I won't complain if you stuff a sock in your mouth while we pray -- and you can bow to your gods.

2011 NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER PROCLAMATION

 

Throughout our history, Americans have turned to prayer for strength, inspiration, and solidarity.

 

Prayer has played an important role in the American story and in shaping our Nation’s leaders.  President Abraham Lincoln once said, “I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go.  My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for the day.”  The late Coretta Scott King recounted a particularly difficult night, during the Montgomery bus boycott, when her husband, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., received a threatening phone call and prayed at the kitchen table, saying, “Lord, I have nothing left.  I have nothing left.  I have come to the point where I can’t face it alone.”  Dr. King said, in that moment of prayer, he was filled with a sense of comfort and resolve, which his wife credited as a turning point in the civil rights movement.

 

It is thus ****ing that, from the earliest years of our country’s history, Congress and Presidents have set aside days to recognize the role prayer has played in so many definitive moments in our history.  On this National Day of Prayer, let us follow the example of President Lincoln and Dr. King.  Let us be thankful for the liberty that allows people of all faiths to worship or not worship according to the dictates of their conscience, and let us be thankful for the many other freedoms and blessings that we often take for granted.

 

Let us pray for the men and women of our Armed Forces and the many selfless sacrifices they and their families make on behalf of our Nation.  Let us pray for the police officers, firefighters, and other first responders who put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect their fellow citizens.  And let us ask God for the sustenance and guidance for all of us to meet the great challenges we face as a Nation.

 

Let us remember in our thoughts and prayers those who have been affected by natural disasters at home and abroad in recent months, as well as those working tirelessly to render assistance.  And, at a time when many around the world face uncertainty and unrest, but also hold resurgent hope for freedom and justice, let our prayers be with men and women everywhere who seek peace, human dignity, and the same rights we treasure here in America.

 

The Congress, by Public Law 100-307, as amended, has called on the President to issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a “National Day of Prayer.”

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 5, 2011, as a National Day of Prayer.  I invite all citizens of our Nation, as their own faith or conscience directs them, to join me in giving thanks for the many blessings we enjoy, and I ask all people of faith to join me in asking God for guidance, mercy, and protection for our Nation.

Doesn't sound that way to me but of course, you know that our Holier Than Thou Preacher will find something wrong with it. IF he bothers to read it. He'll probably just start another topic......about you.

Hi Chick,

My apologies!  Most likely the large, bold text was a glitch in the new forum software.  Initially your post was just as shown in my  post.  I did not change anything.  As a matter of fact, I don't know how to make large font sizes. Then, after I posted my post; I  noticed that the text in your original post was normal.  I just thought that you had second thoughts and changed it.  Please forgive  me for making a wrong initial assumption.

I will have to admit I wondered how you got the large font text.  I have not found a way to change the font size yet.  I suppose one  could go into the html formatting and do that; but, I am sure you did not.

I could go into html formatting if I chose too but do not care to. You can go into Word & type your message in any font, size, & color you desire, then copy & paste it here. You can make your words bold or any color within the message box too.

FROM AMERICAN FAMILY ASSOCIATION:  -  President Barack Obama found time to prepare an eight paragraph proclamation for  Earth Day on Friday, but found zero time to issue a proclamation for Easter, the highest and holiest day of the year for Christians.

While waxing eloquent about the necessity of preserving our nation's "natural heritage," he had not a word for the millions of  Christians celebrating Easter in America and around the world.

The American Family Association believes this was an intentional act of disrespect.

This is consistent with other egregious examples of disregard for our Christian heritage on the president's part, such as omitting  "Creator" from the Declaration of Independence, which he has done on at least three occasions.

The president has shown far more interest in promoting Islam than his own self-proclaimed Christian faith, the faith of our Founding  Fathers.

The president has been devoted to issuing statements marking all major Muslim holidays, which are of no historical significance to  the United States whatsoever. He has released statements in honor of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj and Eid-ul-Adha, holidays which  most Americans cannot pronounce and certainly do not celebrate.

More glaringly, President Obama made no mention of Good Friday or Easter in his weekly address to the nation on Saturday.

Even the secular media noted this inexcusable slighting of the Christian faith. When asked about it, the president's spokesman, Jay  Carney, answered mockingly by saying, "I'm glad you're asking me these important questions, guys."

TAKE ACTION:   Please let the White House know that these are in fact "important questions" because they go directly to the heart of our   fundamental values as a people and to the issue of whether our president shares those values.

Bill won’t get it. He’s one of those people who prays loudly on the street corners so that others will look at him and say, oh, he's so religious. God doesn't like that. Bill needs others to see his piety.  He wants the honor for himself rather then giving it to God. He wants us to see how "righteous"  he is.

well no sh** sherlock.  that was my point.  PLEASE pray to your heart's content.  you have that right and i would certainly defend it. but you are admitting that your god is so impotent and cowardly that He must demand not only quiet, peaceful prayer by oneself or small groups, but also demands that all our elected leaders force CHRISTIAN prayer proclamations onto those who do not agree with those beliefs be they atheist or pagan or hindu or muslim. 

First, this country was founded partly because our forefathers wanted to insure that we could worship any deity we saw fit, or not worship at all. The very fabric of our country says we should not dictate what we believe. If Barack Obama is Muslim so what?

Second, I have heard him  at least half a dozen times in the past two weeks refer to God. When he was in Tuscaloosa he repeatedly told people God bless you.

There is no law that says a President has to be Christian. Thank God.

 

Get out there in 2012 and vote for somebody you believe in, not who some bunch of religious fanatics tell you  to vote for.

Bill, I DO put a lot of thought into what I write here. And I HATE seeing people lie in God's name. I have caught YOU in a lie. You said you didn't know how to type in large font, AFTER you had written here in large font.

 

You also "chastised" HoD in another thread for simply copying and pasting, saying that YOU always insert your own thoughts, explaing why you agree with anything you have copied and pasted. There was nothing YOU had written in the post I copied that explained WHY you agreed with the pasted portion. There was only your unfounded and DISPROVED assertion that Obama ingnored Easter.

 

So we have three lies exposed in one post. 1) that you don't know how to type in large font, 2) that you always explain why you agree with what you have copied and pasted, and 3) that Obama ingnore Easter.

 

This proves my point that you take God's name in vain by using religion to promote your political agenda.

 

It is very important to me that people not be misled into thinking they must be a lying, far-right, agenda driven fundy in order to be considered a good Christian. As a matter of fact, I want to point out to people that you represent the exact opposite of what a true Christian is.

Semi, it has nothing to do with liking Bill or not liking him AS A PERSON. We are all, myself included, made up of good parts and bad parts. When someone lies as Bill obviously did, I don't like it. I will call them out on it every time. So, no, I don't like the part of Bill that lies, insults, or twists scripture to suit his own ends. I still wish him well though.

 

Heck, Unob is another one whom I take on in these forums. He is just as bad as Bill, the way HE twists scripture he doesn't even believe in. His agenda is to make all of Christianity look bad. But I wish HIM well too.

 

I guess I can seperate the words and actions from the person. I think in the case of Bill and Unob it is because they both seem sincere in their belief that they are "helping" people. Bill truly believes that his way of thinking is right, and that if we all thought that way, we'd be better off. Unob too. I think they are both wrong, but in their own twisted ways, they mean well.

 

So, as the saying goes, "Hate the sin, love the sinner".

 

I hope they will afford me the same consideration, because Lord knows, I am nowhere near perfect either!

Yeah, you got it right. Like I keep saying- BeeG is trying to rack up "brownie points" cause time is getting short. He's steppin' and fetchin' like his feets is on fire and his butt is catchin'.

 It must truly suck to be THAT afraid of something.
