Fired for what they claimed was "bad editing", a "mistake"??  And the producer wasn't named, or his race disclosed.

---------------------------------------------------------------

A producer for NBC News has been fired for editing a recording of George Zimmerman's call to police the night he fatally shot Trayvon Martin.

The New York Times is reporting that "the person was fired on Thursday, according to two people with direct knowledge of the disciplinary action who declined to be identified discussing internal company matters."

The dismissal of the Miami-based producer, whose name has not been publicized, followed an internal investigation by NBC, which led to the network apologizing earlier this week for having aired the deceptive audio.

One of the rules of editing is that you may shorten the original to make it more concise, but you must strive to preserve the integrity of the message.

The National Press Photographers Association has a Code of Ethics regarding that.

If the original was edited in such a way that a reader or viewer would come to a different conclusion than what the original conveyed, and especially if the editing was deliberately done to steer toward that conclusion, then that would be an unethical edit.

A publication which has any sense of journalism ethics would not tolerate such an action.
