Ok, what do I do if I witnessed a certain person doing something that is totally wrong? No one has been threatened, shot at or knocked out: I saw it with my own eyes a woman that is running for office taking down signs of other candidates. This is wrong, should this be reported to the police? Should I confront this woman? All the candidates work hard to put these signs up and its ashame that people stoop to the level of vandalism/stealing to try & win a vote! HELP!

Most campaign signs are placed ILLEGALLY on public rights of way. It is no crime to remove them any more than it would be a crime to remove litter. Those illegally placed signs are, in fact, a form of litter.

A candidate for a public office (e.g. sheriff) who wins the office will be required to take an oath promising to uphold the law. Is it not ironic that such a person will have created an open and public record of violating the law, having distributed a multitude of his or her campaign signs illegally upon the public rights of way?

If you decide to "call the police," be sure to report all the illegally-placed signs you have observed as you have driven about observing the proliferation of ILLEGAL signs contaminating the roadsides in this community of scofflaw office seekers!

That is in fact what you should do. Report it to the propor authorities asap. It will filter it's way into the public if in fact it is true.

beternu, i agree that alot of signs are placed illegally, but when they are in someones yard, NOT blocking anyones view: THAT IS WRONG TO REMOVE THEM (and No, it wasnt just one sign)

thanks for your imput

To be "in someone's yard," a sign must be within the actual coundaries of the residential lot. The street rights of way atypically extend beyond the pavement and curbing to include an area that might be mowed and otherweise maintained by the adjacent lot owner, but that actually is in the right of way.
Most residents do not know where the right of way ends and their lots begin. The street where I live has a 50-foot right of way. Thus, when I measure half of that, or 25 feet, from the center line back toward my property, I find that about 10 feet of my "yard" is actually part of the right of way.

But that is immaterial as far as signage placed on main thoroughfares right up next to the pavement. You can bet your bippy THOSE signs are illegally placed and that is where many campaign signs are placed by the scofflaw candidates for such offices as judges and sheriffs! Shame on them!
