Hi. I need ideas of nice locations for a wedding/reception. I'm not sure if I want a church wedding or not. I'm just looking for ideas right now. I am also interested in an outside wedding. Everythings up in the air for right now, so any suggestions are appreciated. I kind of want the wedding/reception at the same place, but different rooms, so we dont have to actually transition from wedding to reception in the same room. If I have a church wedding, then I'll just need a place for the reception. I dont want the reception held at the church if it's a church wedding. If I could find a location where the wedding could be outside..then the reception inside, that would be nice. I know that sometimes when your reception is held too far from the wedding site, that you lose some of your guests. So I'm trying to avoid that. I haven't been to many weddings here. I don't know many people that have gotten married here lately, so I really don't have any ideas. So...any help would be much appreciated. I'm thinking maybe 100-125 guests. Thanks!

A friend of mine's son and daughter-in-law just used Wilson Park this past May. I saw the Wedding Pictures and they were beautiful! They used their church I think for the reception but I have seen weddings there that had the wedding and reception both there. I guess it's according to the time of year you're having it-if you want to eat outside-heatwise.
Sheffield has two on Montgomery Avenue, one in a "retired" church building, near city hall. Tuscumbia has at least two. I would advise talking with their respective city clerks for more information. A good early step might be to line up a good wedding director/advisor. Sit down with the pro and discuss what you want and what you expect to spend.
Thanks for everyone's help. I really appreciate it. Now, I'm gathering up names and numbers of different caterers and photographers, to see what suits us best. If you have any good ones in mind, please do share. I know there are wonderful caterers and photographers out there that do amazing jobs, they're pretty easy to locate, but I'm looking for someone that's not as expensive as the very best. Sometimes finding a deal takes extra work. You all have been great. Thanks.
There is a new wedding chapel out in the country. It is owned by the same people that do The Carriage Strolls in downtown Florence and for weddings. They have had beautiful weddings indoor and out. It is called Carriage strolls of the shoals and the number is 764-1901. Terrye is the lady you will talk to and she is wonderful.

Yeah! We love them. Even when throwing a shower or party, we get them to cater. There petit fours are great and they are such nice people to work with. I agree with whoever said the Marriott for the reception...beautiful place.
My aunt had her wedding there, and they catered it, too. I second Bella - the most delicious petit fours ever!! It is a perfect location for a small wedding.
I just directed a wedding for my best friends daughter. She got married at Joe Wheeler state park and they reserved Pavilion 1. They had the wedding in the field and had a gazebo set up to get married under and chairs for the guest. The reception was held under the Picnic area. We had candles in the fireplace and depending on what kind of food you want at your reception you can decorate for it. My friend daughter had box lunch for there guest with a sandwich, chips, pickle, pack of mayo, mustard. Then they got to choose a bottle drink, coke, root beer, orange...etc. The guest ate while pictures were being taken of the wedding party. When the wedding party came back from Pictures then the wedding cake, groom cake was cut. The had other desserts to. She decorated with fall colors and pumpkin, straw bales, etc. It was a really pretty wedding.

Hope this give you a little help ......good luck and congrats on the up coming wedding.
If I decide on a church wedding, which I'm sort of leaning towards, because I don't want the hassle of finding a backup location in case of rain. The church I attend is really small. Do you know of any churches that rent to the public. I have called some and they are asking $1000. Do you know of any that are much cheaper than that? Thanks for all of your help.
Oh, and it doesn't have to be a very large church. I'm needing to fit about 150 people. The church I attend can't hold that many. I had gotten suggestions to call certain churches because people were certain they offered these kinds of services. Turns out, it's just too expensive for me. So, a smaller church at a reasonable price is what I'm looking for. Thanks.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still checking into these locations. What trouble I am running into is a reception location that allows you to have your food catered by someone else. Only thing I'm coming across is rec centers and things of that sort. I want the ceremony and reception at diff spots, plus I may be having alcohol, not really for sure yet though. But having the reception at the church is out of the question for right now. Any other places. Thanks.

I've called the owners of Grace several times, but can never get anyone. I'll keep trying though. Has anyone ever been in the basement section of the Underwood Petersville Community Center. I was wondering what it looks like. I'm thinking we may end up doing a really low budget wedding/reception, and not throw a lot of money away on the wedding, but instead enjoy a nice honeymoon, and save all the extra that a nicer wedding would cost. I've actually been to a wedding at the center a long time ago, but have not been in the basement. They have an option of renting both areas, so I was just wondering. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
My sister and her husband got married in the courtyard of Webster Inn in Sheffield.... they did all their decorations because they wanted to... It was absolutely beautiful and most of their pictures were taken by the pool which added to the beauty.......

Then we all went inside to a banquet room and it was very pleasing......

The main thing was it cost them a fraction of what a traditional Church Wedding would cost... go figure,,, lol.....

Please let us know what your final decision is because I just love threads like this one... Smiler
