It does my heart good this morning to see many of the politicians who ran negative ads defeated. In particular, Tim James, who reveled in ads against Bradley Bryne being one of those "evil liberals" gets his just desserts. Wasn't James behind the mysterious "Republican Pact" ads?

And party switcher Parker Griffith and all of his "dangerous Pelosi and Obama agenda" crap! I hope I never have to listen to his ads again.

All the liberal bashing seems to have failed.

"Liberal is not a dirty word."

If, by liberal bashing, you mean liberals bashing other liberals, you're right. Liberal isn't a dirty word when used to describe the amount of peanut butter I like to eat.

Bush was the anti-Christ! Smiler

Seriously, can you explain why he scares you?

Liberal is not a dirty word, it's a disease.

Yeah, those a great places to live, but not compared to the USA. Ive been to many places outside the US, and I have found one thing to be constant in almost all of them:

They want to be more like us

Imagine that, I dont see a whole lot of Americans looking to copy to French culture. Or the German culture. See the difference? We are the greatest country on earth, no doubt, which is why others strive to be like us to to be us, as well as why many hate us. Not our arrogance, but their jealousy. Pure and simple.

If you are not proud to be American and believe that we are the best in the world, there are other places that will welcome you in. But Id be willing to bet many of them have tighter border control and immigration policies than we do.....

Well said, Ferrell. As for Starry thinking "W" was the anti-Christ, that is laughable. He may not have always been "smoooooth" like Barry, but he was a good Christian man; he believed in Our Country, NEVER bowed to another leader, and lead us as One Nation Under God. Can't say so much for the "our country is not a Christian nation" guy we have in there now.
StarryNight,
It is evident that not only do patriotic Americans think this is the greatest nation to live so do many others as shown by the fact that so many from other countries dream and strive to come to the USA. We value the concept "to be the best you can be." ARROGANCE - in the dictionary is a picture of Obama - no other definition is needed.

I can tell how much stock to put in these just by the last link. The Oprahites followed Oprah like lemmings off a cliff and put Obama in office. Obama Hood some have called him, rob from the rich and give to the poor. Exactly who draws the line regarding who is rich? There is no 'middle class' with Obama. There are those using the entitlement programs and those paying for them. Thats about as simple as it gets.....

Bush also got thousands of young men killed in Iraq due to bad intelligence on his watch; did nothing about immigration reform or health care reform; accelerated our stunning debt as well as our trade deficit with China.

Yeah, good Christian man. And in light of all his screw ups, it's sooooo important that he never bowed to another leader. What a joke!

The question was, "Why do you think PEOPLE in the US are better than anyone else?" Unless I missed a post, that doesn't mean StarryNight thinks the U.S. shouldn't strive to be the best she can be.

Now I have to ask WWJT? I mean, is it Christian for one PERSON to think he/she is better than another? Probably in the Shoals, Alabama it is.
Buttercup, thank you! I never said I hated this country. On the contrary, I love it. That said, I think we all have room for improvement and we could take some pointers from other countries. I also find the "better than they are" attitude offensive.

Bush described as a "good Christian man" actually made me laugh out loud.

As a rule of thumb, the person in an argument who believes the president and speaker are the anti-Christ (two anti-Christs?) may not be the person in the argument with the strongest grip on reality.

As for the discussion on American exceptionalism, yes, America is undeniably awesome, but I too take exception to the version of patriotism that seems to mainly be about giving the middle finger to the rest of the world.
The great "W" had rhis country on the verge of becoming a 3rd world country. Other countries had started outsourcing jobs here because the dollar was worth so little. Getting the USA back up to the standards of the rest of the civilized world is a big accomplishment. We will again be the greatest nation in the world someday, UNLESS the republicans vote in another brain dead idiot. If that happens our country is doomed.

Because the dollar was worth so little? And you blame that on Bush alone? Did you even pay attention to past administrations. An administration is not only judged by what it does when in office, but the legacy it leaves behind. Clinton reduced the national debt, but how?

Ohh, lets see, we dont need those 100 tanks over there, we're not at war, we only need 25, so as the tanks break down, lets scavage the parts off of them to keep at least 25 running. That way, the defense spending will look good on paper. But what happens when we go to war and need tanks? Ohh, the president in charge when that happens can take care of that. (Trust me, I was in the service under Clinton, what a joke.) Then, when the troops arent prepared for war because they dont have the supplies (tanks, etc) they need, who do we blame? BUSH! When he has to spend like crazy to retrain the military and prepare them for operations readiness, who do we blame? BUSH! Imagine that, Clintons cutbacks fell on Bush's shoulders. Hummmm.

Also, which president was it that said everyone deserves a home of their own? CLINTON. So Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae began their loan programs that eventually led to the housing bubble and the collapse of the housing market (undeniably helping with the economic dive we are currently pulling out of). Everyone does not deserve a home (those that work for it and can afford it do), but this entitlement program artificially inflated the housing market. Another entitlement program (enacted by Clinton) at its best. And I have heard Clinton, in an interview, state that it may be the biggest regret of his administration. But BUSH gets all the blame for the weak dollar. Hummm......

Obama will be judged by his administration as well, just wait. Another democratic president pushing entitlement programs on the masses. Status Quo I guess......

But we did not need to go to war. Seven years into it and we're still there and will probably always have a presence there.

Wrong. Lies on behalf of lending institutions and unregulated investment banks started that dive. It's true that people should not have taken out adjustable-rate mortgages, knowing the payment would go up. But it was also wrong for underwriters to make loans to any and everyone without checking employment, salary, etc. I work in the banking industry, Jeepin', and they're not innocent in this.

We were better off under Clinton and had no deficit. Bush screwed everything up.

Whether we needed to go to war or not is really not the issue. We would have had to go to war with someone eventually. History has proven that. Degrading the military at the cost of military readiness put us at risk as a country. It opens us up to attacks like 9/11 and decreases our ability to fight on multiple fronts. Reagan built the military into what it was, Bush Sr maintained it and Clinton destroyed it. Bush Jr was just the patsy that ended up with the short straw in regards to military readiness. This was all done to decrease the deficit. It gave people like OBL the guts to attempt multiple terrorist attacks.

Lending institutions had a lot to do with it as well, but it was the housing bubble that pushed us over the edge. If Fannie and Freddie hadnt been securing those loans with the government (aka Clintons) backing, they would have never made those risky loans in the first place. Banks arent out to loose money, the only reason they were willing to take the risk is someone told them the govt was backing the loans and taking the risk for them.....

Investment bankers made money alright, on risky investments, and they caused stockholders in this country to lose everything.

According to Weiss Ratings, some of the larger banks are still vulnerable and a few that call the Southeast home have a "D" rating.

Fannie, Freddie and Clinton aren't responsible for this; greedy bankers are:

Business were relocating to the US because their own welfare socialist states had driven the cost of labor off the map. also, the US worker is the most efficient in the world. In case you haven't noticed, the EU is down for the count and won't recover in the mode it operated in.

Once more, buttercup,

There was a deficit under Clinton. He simply moved the social security surplus into the budget to hide the deficit. That can no longer be done as the surplus is depleted and the deficit is so large.

Historically, for nearly one hundred years, people bought homes valued at 2 to 3 times their income (2.5 times income was optimal). The presence of two entities, Fannie/Freddie, ultimately backed by the US government caused the amount funds in the housing market to double to $13 trillion. This large amount of money drove up the cost of homes. Borrowers paid 4 to 5 times or more their incomes. Freddie/Fannie provided half of the $13 trillion, about $6.5 trillion. If Fannie/Freddie didn't exist, the bubble wouldn't have happened. True, credit rating firms, like Moody, do bear some blame for rating the derivatives and mortgages at unrealistically trustworthy levels. Why investors haven't sued, I don't know!
