Hello. Unfortunately my first post is to ask a question. If someone has two full time jobs and losses one, can he recieve unemployment benefits for the one he lost until he can find another one? Thank you. I have been trying to call the number I was given at JobLink to ask and the recording always says they are busy and to try the call again later. Frowner

I can somewhat relate. My wife is a recently unemployed nurse and, not to make you feel any worse, but she is not having much luck either. She was a pct while in nursing school.

With the healthcare reform issue and the economy like it is, the medical field is taking a double hit. Even those that have jobs available are afraid to fill them and have hiring freezes. About all you can do right now is keep beating on the doors and make sure folks know who you are and that you are willing to do whatever it takes. Network within employers. One thing that is true in most places is that being in the right place at the right time (or having someone you know be in the right place at the right time) is sometimes as important as being qualified.

My wife is still looking, but as she has been looking I am sure she would know if there was something for a pct or lpn in some of the places shes been. I'll ask her in the morning and, if there is something she has heard of, I'll PM you.

As for the unemployment, I would go down and talk to them. They are located over in Sheffield and are there to help out when needed. It sounds like you may make too much to draw (the max a person can draw is $255 a week +$25 from a recent temporary increase), but it never hurts to go down and try.

The jobservice folks are the old unemployment office folks (in the same location) and can answer many (if not all) of your questions about filing.....

At this point, I would work at McDonalds. My experience is in the medical field as a patient care tech. By the way, is there any way for me to change this ridiculous screen name? I made the mistake of letting my young son pick it for me and told him to surprise me. He did, indeed.

To change your username: Go to the main forum page. At the top of the list is "change your forum screen name here". Click on it. This will take you to a new screen where you will have to sign in again. Once you have done so, it pop up a page where you can change your screen name.

I just tried it and it worked for me. If you are having trouble, one of your internet settings might be preventing you from displaying the page.
Poopah... you can go online for the unemployment. Go to Joblink.Alabama.gov and find the "file unemployment" section, it will be on the first screen that pops up. It will lead you through it, but you have to register with the Jobcenter first to get your password and all that. You will need to go to the Shoals Career Center in Town Plaza Shopping Center in Sheffield and tell them what you need to do.

As for supporting 4 people on $550 net every two weeks.... all I can say is do what we did and cut back big time on things. You would be surprised what you can do without when you have to. We had to let our cell phones go...we have a house phone with an answering machine, so if anyone calls me about an interview, I get the message. I always say in my cover letters that if I don't answer to please leave a message and I will get back to them as soon as possible. You don't need 150 t.v. channels to watch... I have the basic 11 and it does me just fine. I double or triple up on car trips... I don't "run to the store" for anything anymore... I wait until I have several things to do and do them all in one trip instead of making 4 or 5 "little" trips. The kids have learned to shop at the local thrift and consignment shops and actually enjoy finding "pricey" clothes for 2 or 3 dollars. Got my daughter a pair of brand new Converse sneakers that retail for $89 for $2.50, and they were still in the box with the price on them. Yard sales are good places, but it takes up the gas to go to them... you might want to try having "swap meets" with friends and neighbors... gather up things you don't want, get other families you know involved and swap items. And nothing wrong with eating beans and cornbread a few nights.... just make sure you have plenty of Beano on hand!!!!

One more thing... my cousin found out you can no longer change your screen name... you have to go back and re-register like you are doing it for the first time, provide email address, etc. And tell your child he did good.... very imaginative......

There's a few professional openings at ECM and Shoals Hospitals, for anyone interested.

This is interesting, since ECM just laid off 20 nurses. According to our sources, these jobs are for internal transfers only as they attempt to reshuffle people around (the RN positions).

I've got some good news for you, though. Check your PM's (Private messages).
