My husband and I had lunch there a couple of weeks ago, and most of the food was delicious! I ordered a chicken dish that had a wine sauce and mushrooms, along with pan-fried potatoes and spaetzle. The chicken was the most tender, flavorful chicken I've ever eaten, and I can't wait to go back and order it again (sorry, I can't remember the name of the dish).

The one item I was less than thrilled about was the spaetzle; it tasted very starchy and didn't have much flavor. I had spaetzle once before at Epcot, and although the dish is supposed to be a little bland, it had a firmer texture. Still, the rest of the food was so good we'll definitely be back. We shared a slice of German chocolate cake, but next time I'm ordering a slice of the Black Forest cake all for myself!

It's www.myspace.com/hannelores but it doesn't give any updated info on the restaurant. There's no menu or anything like that. Maybe they'll update it soon (hint hint to Hannelore's).

Note: Music begins to play as soon as the page loads, so make sure you've got the sound turned down/off if you don't want to be blasted by horns!
Hi all! This is Chris C. a Co Owner and founder of Hannelore's.Let me give a bit of info about myself and my staff and also my Mother Susan Hannelore Caron.
Susan (My Mom) was born and raised in Berlin,Germany where she met my father,a service man, married and she became a citizen,I've worked in the food business for 17 years.I grew up with a wide variety of dishes German being the main stream so all this food is second nature to me.
Unfortunately my father passed away and Mother moved to be closer with her family. All her life she has cooked German dishes for a large group of people with great compliments. So we merged my restaurant experience with her Homemade Recipes.Took a small loan and began work.

Its been a long process to get it open but we are here and if you all enjoy the food and provide support we are here to stay.

My biggest concentration was to keep the recipes as authentic as possible with the ingredients available without any shortcuts, and providing the customer with the service they deserve.

We wanted that OK i am at moms house feel.Which i think we have brought to our small corner.

Alot of corporations are all about the dollar sign at the end of the day,We are about how many people can we make happy and full each day, because if you can accomplish that everything else will fall into place.

I feel privileged to bring this food to the shoals and I hope everyone enjoys it as I have growing up.

I have a very knowledgeable staff thats taken me time to bring up to my standards,But am completely confident in their abilities.
Jason English a friend and co-owner has extensive knowledge in the food business and has helped a great deal in this venture so feel free to contact Jason or myself on any questions about the Restaurant.256-712-1782

LIVING PROOF YOU DON'T HAVE TO TRAVEL TO EXPERIENCE THE REAL STUFF...
I have eaten at numerous German Restaurants throughout the US...and have tasted some of the best...and I can say this without hesitation...!!! IF YA WANT TO KNOW AT LEAST FOR ONE TIME IN YOUR LIFE WHAT REAL DOWN HOME GERMAN FOOD TASTE LIKE...THEN YOU BETTER RUN NOT WALK TO THIS PLACE...When the word gets out about this LITTLE JEWEL that has for whatever reason ended up in the SHOALS..there's going to be a waiting line and RESERVATION LIST a mile long...as Emeril Lagasse says on on THE FOOD CHANNEL they have most certainly kicked the FOOD QUALITY BAR up several notches for the Shoals Area.
We arrived their Saturday Night around 7:30PM... Compared to other restaurants in the area the place is small with 12 tables..but the decor along with the "I am in somebody's house" warmth of the place, it is what the doctor ordered for a laid back dining experience...(if you noticed I said dining and not eating out)
The music is totally German which has a lively beat that added that final touch to a picture perfect German setting...
We were seated next to the wall in a position where we could watch the Kitchen Staff at work...it was like watching a dance as the dishes came out rapidly and on time...

I ordered the TUCHER German beer and my partner ordered one of the German white wine's from an extensive list.

Open up the menu, and it is a German Food Lovers Wish List...after perviewing for a while...I decided on the house special which was the Potato Crushed Tilapia served with a Creamy Dill Sauce...my choice of sides was the Spaetzle (small German like dumplings in a broth) and the Steam Vegetables....($9.95) My Partner settled on the Hannelore Pork Schnitzel which is tenderized Pork stuffed with Jarlsberg cheese and ham...her choices of sides was Pan Fried Potatoes and Red Cabbage...($12.95) We wanted to experience as much as we could so we went ahead an ordered a Gypsy Chicken smothered in Peppers and Onions...with sides of Wurst Salad and Baby Brussel Sprouts ($7.95)...with the intentions of doggie bagging that one home...
As a compliment dish the waitress brought out with the.... fresh out of the oven dark Pumpernickel bread( ya ain't gonna eat just one), a bowl of Cucumber Salad.(This is a medium size dish with thinly shaved fresh cucumbers in a sour cream sauce) Let me tell you, there was one folk fight over the last bit of that dish...
Along with the Entree's comes a salad...I ordered the house salad with homemade ranch dressing and my partner order the house salad with the house vinegarette dressing...We had just finished these when the waitress showed up and laid before me one of the most delicate looking piece's of lightly saute' fish I have seen in quite sometime...it was surrounded by the side dishes...and covered with the dill sauce...My sidekick's dish was a large piece of lightly saute'd Pork surrounded by the side dishes...All I can say about those dishes is it was love at FIRST BITE..
By then we had just about stretched our waist bands to the point of popping, when one of the Kitchen Magicians came out and was talking to some of the tables...as we talked with him, we discovered that he was one of the Chef's at the Old Emerald Coast Restaurant on Cox Creek Parkway and a Chef in the old Louisiana Restaurant that had a reputation for years as being one of the best. Between He and Chris they have 35 years of kitchen experience, and they make the best of that experience...Jason was telling me about the young lady I saw working over the stove...she was quick and keeping up with the rapid pace of the orders as they came it...I don't know her name...but she is definitely an asset to the finished product they put out...as we continued talking he started telling us bout the desserts being freshly made that day, which was the apple streduel, cheese streduel, and as he was telling us about the Black Forrest Cake with Blackberry wine soaked Cheeries...that was the clincher...another order went in for the Black Forrest and Cheese Streduel...Now! when I see piece of cake...I am talking about a piece of cake...The chocolate cake mixed with the white sweeten creamy frosting between the layers...lays on your tongue like sweet honey...then the taste buds are struck with the black berry wine cherries wrapping their tiny little flavor all around your palette...and you think...if they don't have this in heaven...I ain't going.....
Needless to say we didn't even get to the cheese dessert as there was no more space left...It was doggie bagged home along with a portion of the Gypsy Chicken...
When I got the bill....it hit me...that we had just had one of the finest meals the Shoals can offer and the total with a $10.00 tip was less than $60.00...
So! folks if you want to dine out...and eat without having to shout at each other....then this is the place for you...
OK, I'm a skeptic and a picky eater, but a friend of mine took me to lunch at Hannelore's the other day and IT WAS WONDERFUL! The service was great -- friendly but not overkill. The food was delicious. I'm not big on saurkraut, but theirs has a sweet taste to it not too vinegary. And the potatoes were ALMORST BUT NOT QUITE as good as the fried taters my mamaw made. I had Bratwurst (sp?) -- kept it to something I was familiar with and there was too much to eat even for 2 meals.

I would highly recommend trying this place out. The only bad thing is there is not a lot of parking in the lot -- can't fix that though.

Two thumbs up!!!
