I read a reference that the old V.J. Elmore dime store in Sheffield will be a restaurant, complete with rooftop dining.  Any idea of what type?

Also, saw there is a new place that includes wine, by the bottle, sells. Anyone been there?

TRUTH -- THE NEW HATE SPEECH!

I'm afraid at my age and shape by the time I climbed steps to the top of any building, in order to eat, I'd be so out of sorts that I'd forget what I came there to eat in the first place or I'd be to worn out to be able to enjoy my meal.

I do like the concept though and if the insects could be controlled it might just be an attractive dining choice for the Shoals.   I think that the area and local clientele might just support such a progressive unique concept in dining.  Still though the real question is would they provide decent food and quality food?  If you can't cook or provide consistent good tasting selections then any other unique offerings would just be seen as an attempt to overcome subpar service or quality.

I believe the rooftop dining will be an option, not the only place to dine. Such are popular in larger cities.  The people who recently re-opened the place next to Outback spend quite a bit remodeling and brining in music.  However, their menu was poor -- may items weren't available and those served not very palatable.

I kept waiting to hear about them because I kept wondering.  I checked in on  them while they were in the renovation phase and kept thinking that they were going to have an uphill battle of it.  Sometimes a place gets a stigma about it and that place from the days of the Sport's Rock seemed to be that nothing would work or stick.

Seems that Sport's Rock did do pretty good but they got into trouble when one of the owners or managers allowed under age girls in with the provision that they take a camera into the bathroom and bring back a photo to him, or so I heard.   After that nothing really made it.  I had hoped, very much, that Dreamland would be able to make it there and felt if anyone had a chance it would be them.  Unfortunately there is only one Dreamland that seems to be any good and that's the original.  Jim N Nicks is pretty good as is Full Moon but locally here I still believe that 306 is best for BBQ pork sandwiches or Southern BBQ for their Chicken.

I think now that it's going to be an impossibility for someone to make it there, at least in the restaurant business.   I also remember that Holiday Inn had a decent buffet at one time but that too faded.  The best (at least to me) Motel Restaurant was at the old Holiday Inn which was downtown (I believe a Best Western Inn) where the current Hampton Inn Suites.  I remember when that Motel Restaurant was in business back in the early 1990's they actually served up a really good meat and three and Sunday dinner.  We became first acquainted with them on a Christmas Holiday as they were one of the only places serving that day.  I can't remember the year but apparently the owner or manager left or sold out and that which followed wasn't near as good and so it went.
