City Limits Cafe

A new restaurant will be opening in the Killen/Center Star area in the old Don Behl auction building.  The above is a link to their facebook page.

According to the owners/managers, City Limit's Cafe will open on Wednesday, Oct 10th, 2018.  Here is where they said they are located:

just past Brooks High School (when traveling from Killen towards Athens) at 5430 US Hwy 72 in Killen, we are at the far end of the Don Behl Realty building. We will open Wednesday-Saturday 11a-7p and Sunday 11a-3p.

There used to be a BBQ restaurant (TNT BBQ I think) in the same location and this is just past the old Outpost 72 building and on the opposite side of the highway.   Here is what they posted their upcoming menu will be for this week when they open and they classify themselves as a meat and 3 type restaurant.

Their first Weekly Menu?!

First Review - Saturday's Menu

First the bad news, i.e. negatives:

Given how good this place is you may have trouble finding a close parking place.  Another thing is that given the restaurant is in Center Star it may be a little farther drive than some people are accustomed to when they go out to eat.  Last, again, given as good as it is, you might have to be a little understanding with the waitresses as sometimes (like Sundays) it can get very crowded.  Last Sunday I was told they served around 400+ plates/folks.

Now the Good!

This isn't one of your "open the can, heat the food" restaurants as the cooks actually do prepare the food.  As for the cooks, and the owner, this isn't their first rodeo either.  The cooks have long-term experience in the food industry, in one case having worked at Outpost 72 for many years followed by many years doing catering.  The cooks have either worked in other restaurants or the catering industry.  The owner, prior to opening this restaurant, owned, and managed, "City Restaurant" in downtown Tuscumbia and those of you who ate there will recognize the format of this restaurant (see photos below).  Before this place (City Limit's Cafe) opened I chose Garden Gate as my chosen meat & 3 place but I can honestly say I prefer City Limit's Cafe.  Their vegetables have obvious Southern seasoning (this is Southern Cooking (i.e. butter, bacon etc)) and all that I tasted was excellent.

I had the Country Fried Steak w/White Gravy with Fried Okra, Green Beans, and Purple Hull Peas w/cornbread.  All of the above was great, fresh, and wasn't a canned taste.  My wife had one of my favorites.  For $3.49 (I believe that is what I was billed) she had just the Spaghetti and Meat Sauce and this meat sauce had plenty of meat, mostly meat, and was homemade and not out of a can/jar.  It very much reminded me of one of my favorite Pasta dishes I used to get at a Greek family restaurant when I lived in Chattanooga, years ago and that is a good thing.

I would recommend checking their facebook page for updated information on their daily menu (I'll post a link to their facebook page below).  As of now, they say that their daily menu will change and they are only open Wednesday - Sunday but like the daily menus that might change in the future depending on request and demand of the customers.  I don't want to oversell City Limit's Cafe but I was very satisfied with what we ate and happy to have this new Restaurant as a choice.  It's very good, family friendly and affordable.  Below is the facebook page link and some photos.
