New Right-Wing Craze: Using Bible Quote to Pray That Obama’s 'Days Be Few.

'A new slogan is making its way onto t-shirts and even teddy bears: 'Pray for Obama: Psalm 109:8,' which reads, 'Let his days be few; and let another take his office.”

The newest far-right craze is an anti-Obama slogan that is making its way onto t-shirts, bumper stickers, mugs, and even teddy bears: “Pray for Obama: Psalm 109:8,” which reads, “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.” The meme is also taking off on Twitter, with conservatives calling it “hilarious.” Commentators have noted that it’s unclear whether the intent is to hope for an end to Obama’s time in office — or an end to his life. But a look at the lines in the rest of the psalm hint at the latter:

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labor.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children.

Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
Diana Butler Bass at Beliefnet explains that Psalm 109 is one of the “imprecatory” prayers, “a lament in the form of petition to destroy one’s enemies.” While perhaps intended to be a joke, she notes that the psalm actually “entreats God to destroy the president”:

It is the personal prayer of an individual, someone who has been dealt an injustice by another–and usually more powerful–person. The words of Psalm 109 are those of deep agony, the longings of a victim for retribution and justice. This psalm is considered one of the most difficult of all the psalms–full of violent images of vengeance and death.

This slogan is typical right wing extremist religious cults nonsense.

Your conservative religious cults like the Ku Klux Klan and other conservative right wing hate groups started the same slogan while John F. Kennedy was president. I do not understand where these extremist religious groups thinking that hate can get you to Heaven.
Wishing some one dead, horrible indeed.

I think a lot of Bush's death threats were fake threats. I can't imagine any conservative who would want to kill Bush. And liberal people are more for peace so that rules them out. Maybe the people that were after Bush were some of the people he pissed off in other countries. The only two close calls I can recall with Bush was when he got a shoe thrown at him and the fake handgranade to make it look like people were after him. But all the conservatives are out to get Obama and they hope he fails.

Barracus gave you plenty of examples, which you choice to deny. That's a pathology I'll let you explore.

"And liberal people are more for peace so that rules them out." BS. Lefties are some of the nastiest, most vindictive people I've ever met. Just surf thru Huffington Post comments or the Daily Kos comments to see more examples. I saw too many of those sign calling for Bush's death during demonstrations when I lived in DC.

Remember when the left wing radicals mainstream comedian, craig kilborn showed a clip of Bush while running an "assassin wanted" ad at the bottom of the screen? I wonder what would happen if there was a Conservative comedian on TV and he did something like that?

I pray every day for Gods guidence for Obama and that he makes wise decisions and abandons his communist ideology.

I pray every day he fails miserably in his promise to remake America.

I pray every day that his cap and trade scam fails miserably.

I pray every day that his communization of the health care industry fails miserably.

I pray every day that his FCC diversity czar is fired and that the administration efforts to eliminate independent conservative talk radio through the fairness doctrine fails miserably.

I pray every day Obama will never again bomb innocent civilians in Pakistan or anywhere else.

This always happens to bluedog when he jumps ahead before he has been told how to respond. He should know better than to act without approval. This is gonna cost him some obama points and may delay his promotion he's been counting on in the Northern Alabama Chapter of ACORN.
What kind of nutcase(blewdog) starts a thread condemning right wingers for allegedly petitioning God to kill the president and likens them to religious cults and the Klan, and states, "I do not understand where these extremist religious groups thinking that hate can get you to Heaven."

AND IT TURNS OUT THAT JUST OVER 2 WEEKS AGO HE SAID, "Wow, I got that same bumper sticker from moveon.org in 2003 and it said Pray for George W.Bush Psalm 109:8". I guess the republicans are looking for ideas from the liberals. lol"

I guess this proves once and for all that Blewdog and his leftist buds are the real religious zealots, KKK cultists, and the ones full of hate.

blewdog has done more in a single post to validate what we've all been asserting about him than anything we could possibly have done.

Keep up the good work, blew.

This is a disgusting misuse of religion.

BTW the secret service has reported that threats against the president of the United States have increased 400% since Obama took office.

This is no way for people to behave.

Can you provide a link to that secret service report? Last night the secret service said the threat had not changed since Bush. I'm just wondering who is making things up.

"Talking Points Memo noted that Ronald Kessler, the author of a recently released book on the Secret Service's protection of U.S. presidents, recently said that threats against President Obama are up 400 percent from the number of threats levied against former President George W. Bush, while the size of the agency's staff has only increased by 5.3 percent."

They shouldn't but it's understandable.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea the KKK was a Christian organization. (Didn't someone mention looking for a sarcasm font?)
I'm afraid there is a blizzard of spin and denial. "He say; she say". One problem is the comparing of "threats" with "credible threats"; a little play on words there, not clearly defined.

Threats against a sitting president are something to take seriously. It is hard to believe that any citizen of our country would condone such, no matter who holds the office.

It's just plain sick.

According to the Secret Service, there have been more threats made against President Obama than there were against former Presidents George W. Bush or Bill Clinton at this stage in their presidencies.

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama is not facing more threats to his life or security than the previous two presidents, according to the Secret Service.

At a hearing Thursday, Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan said "the threats right now in the inappropriate interest that we are seeing is the same level as it has been for the previous two presidents at this point."

Sullivan rejected a figure in a recently published book by Ronald Kessler, "In the President's Secret Service." Kessler says the threat has increased 400 percent since Obama, the nation's first African-American president, took office.

In October, Kessler told CNN he stands by the figure even though a law enforcement source had told CNN it's false.

"There is about 3,000 threats a year under President Bush and now there are about 12,000. Of course, most of them are not credible, but they all have to be checked out," Kessler told CNN's "The Situation Room" in an interview with Wolf Blitzer in October.
When I see people saying they understand why a Christian would pray for the death of someone, it reminds me of the complaint about Muslims not condemning the terrorists who are Muslims.
I would think such ideas must be fervently condemned by Christians, whether the politician is Bush or Obama. We should pray for our leaders to have wisdom, not that they should adopt our own particular nutty ideas.

As I said before, it may be wrong to threaten a president's life but in this case, it's understandable. I, along with 99.9% of Americans, have never threatened a president's life but I can understand the feelings of those who think our very way of life is in danger of being destroyed by this muslim dude and it's very distressing.

I don't condone praying for someone to die, however, praying for someone to die and strapping 100 pounds of dynamite to your back and setting it off in a crowded market place are not the same thing. One is wishing and the other is doing. Wish in one hand and spit in the other and see which one fills up faster.

The only problem with praying for a muslim to succeed would mean the end of America. Remember, they hate us. You'll never catch me praying for someone who wishes me dead and my country destroyed. It's counterproductive, don't you think?
