It's going to be in the old 'BIG LOTS' building behind 'Dollar Tree'.

I may be wrong but I think I remember Sav-A-Lot being all over the Atlanta area and then closing.  The thing I remember, that might be of interest, is that they were owned and operated by Winn Dixie Stores.  Don't know if that's true or not but if so I'd love to know.  I'd also love to see Winn Dixie having a presence back in this area.

Thank you for the correction.  I knew it had the word save in it but didn't remember SaveRite.

As for "excitement" ... I am excited for people that are out of work and might now find a job.  I don't see anything redneck about that.

Interesting. I didn't realize there was more than one Save A Lot chain.

Ever since reading your post I've been searching online trying to find out who founded the save a lot grocery stores around here that we all know. No luck. There seems to be a huge misunderstanding that it was the serial killer guy everywhere I looked. Although in the article I posted earlier they did say "thrift store" instead of grocery store that also made me stop and wonder.

This is the same chain(which had the store in Florence).  There would not  be two chains with only an 'e' to note the difference,  I ;have seen this story before. - not on court TV.  What difference does it make?  I am sure the stores were sold to another company who retained the name.  The foods were generally of a lower quality but were better than most of small community stories I have been forced to buy from at times.  As I have said before there are several regional staples which they have there. They are not Publix - nor do they claim to be!  Children, go where your tastes and pocketbooks send thee!  I presently have about 10 bottles/varieties of vinegar in my pantry and am waiting to buy a bottle of apple cider vinegar with a German name on the label!  Also watch for pickles!  (BTW, do not save your white balsamic as i twill  turn dark !)

German name from the store!

It doesn't make a difference EM. I mean I wouldn't stop shopping there or boycot the place because of it or anything. I basicly just thought it was interesting. I had never heard about it till seeing the "The Investigators" show about it.

Growing up my mom shopped there a lot and seems like they used to have some pretty good bargains and decent food but the last few times I've been in there it was not the same store it used to be. It's just as high(if not higher) on lots of things than any other grocery store. Every now and then you can catch a special or something but other than that I don't shop there much anymore.
