Neighborhood market is SOOOOOOO much better and smoother than the Hough Road store. Wife and I have been there 3 times since it opened and things are much better. There are actually cashiers there willing and eager to help you. The self check-outs are very good also. I do not promote self check-outs because this causes less jobs BUT the ones are the new store are nice. Also the hot pizza in the deli for $1.50 is not the best but it is good. JUST SAYING!!!

Walmart pharmacies are INCONVENIENT!!

You arrive there and get in line to give them your prescription.  It will not be ready for you for 15-20 minutes.  I suppose they think that means you will wander around and buy $tuff while you wait.

You come back and get in line to receive your prescription.  Two lines involved in the process.

Go to your neighborhood pharmacy.  Mine is Northgate, on Cloverdale Road, Petersville.

They have a large staff and will zip your prescription out in two or three minutes.  If you phone it in, it will be ready when you arrive. I don't have but one regular prescription, but my wife has several and when I go there to pick up mine or hers (after phoning in the prescription number(s), usually a store clerk or pharmacist's assistant sees me coming in the door, reaches for my prescriptions and has them on the counter by the time I get there.  In and out in a minute or two.

We have the Medicare prescription coverage, so the cost there is the same as Walmart.

I suspect the same situation is found at other neighborhood pharmacies.  Why throw your business to Walmart when this kind of superior alternative is available?

Contendah, you hit on a very good thing.  Use local pharmacys if you can.  Don't take a beating on the price, make sure they are competative with the big chains.

Let me tell a story about a prescription.  At a national chain, the name brand was over $400.00, the generic brand was over $200.00.  There was no insurance involved.  A local, family owned pharmacy filled it for $70.00.

Remember, someone has to pay for the fine new stores the chains build.

I like the new store but I always use a local Pharmacy (Milner Rushing) being as the insurance companies set the prices for drugs, the local stores will be the same price as the big chains and usually have competitive cash prices too. It's also nice to have a pharmacist that knows who you are and knows a little more of your medical history details than the summary they pull up on a computer.

My observations:

Hopefully the Walmart Market's prescription volume will be smaller and more efficient. We tried to get the Big Walmart to order special prescriptions, but they just cannot get it right.  Terrible operation.

All carts are good on day one.  It won't take long for those round wheels to go square.

Go find yourself a good independent pharmacy--the Walgreens pharmacist told me.  I was spending 1 hr. 2x per week at Walgreens--until I just gave up.  Their pharmacy people have such bad attitudes from being grossly overworked and understaffed.

Don't complain about Walmart Market not having bologna in the deli.  The counter's only 8' long, so that tells me they're not really in the deli market.  Notice the tiny bread section being supplied by the Supercenter--with dates expiring in 1 day.  They can do better than that.

And don't say anything nice about having 7 self service counters.  WIC and SNAP have to go through those 4 people manned counters, and traffic jams are expected.  With the self service scanners costing just under $50K each, they could have hired many more cashiers since pay for The Market is so low--few full time workers.  Most of The Market's people are part-timers.

Something else not to forget, as someone said, "its gonna cost somebody" and that somebody is you and me. Walmart uses tax dollars to help pay their employees. Yes, for those of you who constantly howl about "those lazy bums on welfare" remember that 85% of WalMart employees qualify for government assistance. Those lazy bums should get themselves a second or third job, and get out of our pockets ?

That part about not minding helping people willing to work and help themselves, just goes over the lefties head. Instead they stress over the "bums" that think they're too good to work at walmart, and we, the taxpayers, should bear the entire load for them. And though they didn't get an education or try to get into the job market when there were jobs, they think IF they are forced to work they should have the easiest job out there with the same pay and benefits that trained, hard working, and dedicated people make.

Before the employees worked at Wal-Mart, they either were unemployed, were minors living with their parents, or worked at those mom and pop stores, which paid the equivalent and didn't provide much in the way of healthcare benefits.  If formerly unemployed, they are not paying some taxes and drawing less from welfare; if living with their parents, they probably aren't on welfare; and of formerly working for mom and pop store, the status is the same.  So, in one of three cases, they are less of a burden on the rest of us.  Seems like a plus, to me.

Are you posting to me? What "arrogance"? I had some "s*****" jobs when I was coming up. I'm sure I had jobs you would turn your nose up at and feel you were "too good" to do. I was never too proud to do any of them, I needed a job, I needed the money, and I used the jobs to train and learn, meet people, so I could "better" myself. And yes, I worked with plenty that did nothing but bi*** about the money, but b**** is all they did. They couldn't take classes or any of that. They had LIVES and needed their money to have some fun, cause life's too short and you're only young once.
