The radio stations here are not like they use to be. The Dee-jay is a robot and is told what to say. The Dee-jay is more like a switcher or button pusher and cannot use their own personality. The radio stations only offer one sided views when it comes to talk radio. It is all and way too conservative. The T.V. stations are just like the radio stations, all and way too conservative. WQLT AND THE BIG DOG WILL NOT PLAY SONGS LIKE FORTUNATE SON BY CCR. WHY? Because they're conservative! The Dee-Jay works for minimum wage because the radio stations can't afford real air personalities in the Shoals. Radio stations got congress to pass a bill that you no longer have to have a 3rd class license to work in radio, so radio stations can now hire anyone off the street to be a so-called air personality.

Many moons ago, radio stations in the shoals area were in competition with each other over the news and weather. Although the stations do plenty of weather reports today, they dont do any real news. WQLT at one time had a top notch news team, and competed very well against WLAY and all of the other little bitty stations around. WQLT needs to get their news department back and force these radio stations and news papers to keep people informed. The problem is these radio stations want to impress people by seeing how conservative they are.

Most people do not listen to radio like they use to. Your biggest radio fans would be someone who works from there car or on a trip. These types listen to sports or a right winger talk show for fun because nothing else is offered. Most people take their cd's with them before turning on a radio. This why they need good local and state news reporting. It would bring back folks to the radio.

The only local radio station I listen to, believe it or not, is WBCF AM 1240 between 10 and 12 in the morning. It's both educational and hilarious and it's certainly not conservative! Otherwise, I listen to Decatur or Huntsville stations.
That is why I listen to WQPR when I'm in town and other NPR affiliates when I'm out of town.

It doesn't seem like these local stations are interested in getting their local flavor back as far as news goes. When a person tries to make the news gathering process better, they are told to stick to reading the Times Daily because it saves time.

Wlay,Wvna, and others Steal their news from the Times Daily.
The way the radio stations have changed....is exactly the reason I am a XM Subscriber.....Turn that channel to the 70's and break off the knob....For less than 60 bucks a year...I get 254 channels of commercial free music...anything from comedy....to the 50's music.....and I can have the same channel when I leave Alabama...and get to Biloxi mississippi....No hunting stations every 50 miles...I just like XM....But...since I have found this new Station....I believe it's 92.3 FM....They play music that was founded or recorded here in Muscle Shoals....I have found myself in the last two weeks listning to some to of that...I am impressed with this station....it holds some musical roots for me...talk to yall in a lilttle bit....The Roofer..
Last year I moved into an Edwardian townhouse converted into four apartments. Realizing my bathroom adjoined my neighbors, I began to play the radio in hopes she wouldn't hear my cat. (It turned out she was hiding her own cat, so the radio proved unnecessary.) The main problem I encountered was a lack of programming I could tolerate while I brushed my teeth. Abysmal hardly covered it. Has anyone recently listened to WQLT on Friday night?
