It's all an act, fellow children. It's a ruse, a con, a fraud. And not just tent shows, but regular Sunday services. Same things apply, you enjoy the magic show then put money in the plate.

Create a Southern Enlightenment. Put such hollow and disreputable preachers in their places.

Hi Deep,

If you dig in the barnyard, are you surprised to find manure? One day, you should try attending a real church to see how real Christians live and worship.

I have often extended an invitation for you to come down and visit our church. Being in Los Angeles, you are not that far away. But, being in spiritual darkness -- it would seem you are worlds away.

However, if you enjoy digging in barnyard manure; have at it.

If you get tired of that, you might try the litter box -- no telling what you might find there.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

How childish and rude.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
If that is your idea of Christian Love and Fellowship, your wires are more crossed than I suspected!

You really are a hateful, pitiful, sorry excuse for a human much less a Christian.

Talk about a failed analogy.
Oh, I'm not cynical. Just aware.

Religious poisoning is a curse on the South. It used to be a curse on all of Europe, but during the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, pretty much compartmentalized as something to discuss over a pint in a pub.

I submit this as a brick in the Southern wall of Get The He11 Over It Already. And for chrissakes, please stop lying to your kids about Hell, evolution, and a watchful god.
BTW, Gray demonstrates the usefulness of religion as an expression of love almost as well as Marjoe did.

Marjoe's better now. Gray is beyond hope.

Still, religious friends, don't be embarrassed by him. He's an extraordinarily poor representative of your point of view, and it would be unfair to paint all of y'all his color.

Just because I disagree with your metaphysics doesn't mean I'd stoop to the level of propping up a straw man like Gray to knock over. I can do better than that.

Many of us have had a crazy uncle who lives in the basement. One of them found a computer.

BCBG I'm shocked!
I don't lie to my kids. I present them all the Truths as I know them. I would never deny anything they learn in a science book. Smiler
Now, am I lying to them by instilling morals and Christian values? If you think so, we will not come to agreement.
But if you can be open to the fact that I do not consider teaching Catechesis to my children as "lying", we alright.
I want my kids to have every advantage in life- academic, physical, spiritual. To equate any of those facets with "lying" is unfair.
jmho.
BJBG,

I hear ya man. I understand where you are coming from with this. I see no difference in this guy and the preacher that is currently at the church I grew up in and most of my family still attends. He has it made! They pay for his house, his car, his insurance and he "works" 3 to 4 hours a week preaching. Pretty good scam if you ask me. Of course he is not as entertaining as Marjoe or his ilk. However its all the same thing.

Just like Bill's Pastor Chuck, I can just see him rolling around in his bed with 20 dollar bills flying around, laughing his head off at the numbskulls who bought his books about the "end times"

Then I see the post by VP and I know that there are truly those that believe with all their heart that what they are doing is right. I don't blame them or think they are stupid. I think we all just do the best we can in this world. It makes it hard for atheist to walk that fine line of not being insulting and yet speaking our own minds about what we see around us. I am so glad that I had the epiphany that freed me from religion years ago, but up until that time I did not believe I was living a lie at all. I also don't think that my parents believe they were lying to me when they told me god, and hell were real. Its really hard to have these conversations with believers without sounding like we are putting them down, when all we really want is to help them see its not necessary to worry over these things and confuse their children with (IMO) make believe scary tales.

VP. B50m, thenagel and a few others are great people who are intelligent, and caring. I don't think they would or do intentionally lie to their children. It would be a lie if we told it to ours, but to them it is real.

I didn't want to comment on any post right now because I have my grandson with me for a couple of weeks and its really hard to keep up on here with a 2 year old. Smiler He is napping right now so if I don't respond to you guys, then you know that I am outside swinging, or watching Elmo. Smiler

I've thought the same thing except instead of 20's I suspect 100,'s and plenty of them.

Thanks Jank. My kids are now old enough to decide for themselves and we let them.

I think you are intelligent and caring as well even if we do have that whole 'myth' thing between us. LOL.

Enjoy the baby, he will start college too soon.!

Hi Jan,

Thank you for bringing up this subject. Actually, in the early 1970s, when Calvary Chapel was beginning to experience a lot of growth -- they needed to expand their facilities.

The leaders of the church had found a large piece of land where they could build -- but, did not have the funds to proceed. They used to drive over to that land and pray for God to make a way.

At that time, a wealthy man in Orange County approached Pastor Chuck and offered to give them one million dollars for the project.

Pastor Chuck refused his offer. Why? Because he did not want him or the church to be obligated to such a large donor.

Eventually, they did acquire the land and build the facilities -- through smaller donations from many and through bank loans.

I believe Pastor Chuck is much like my senior pastor who led me to the Lord in 1987, Pastor Sam. Pastor Sam would not allow the church's finance committee to tell him about any of the tithes and offerings, i.e, who gave what.

Why? Because he is human -- and could be swayed by such information. So, he chose to not be told -- and that way, he knew that he would never show partiality because of money.

You will find Pastor Chuck Smith to be the same kind of Godly church leader and pastor/teacher.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Bill, that is one of the best things you have posted in a long time.
No minister should be involved in any way about the money in a church's account. That should be left up to the the Elders or Deacons.

Billy Joe,

It’s called human emotion. Get over it. It’s been around for millions.
It is no different than political rallies , sporting events where people paint their bodies wear ridiculous clothing. To an outside observer of the universe; it would appear that every one in Alabama graduated from Auburn or Alabama by the emotion displayed during ballgames and the goofy hats, shirts ,tags, stickers displayed on every dead or alive surface when in fact most didn’t graduate high school. Lol

People do it for many reasons. It’s fun and can lead to sex. Cuttum some slack.

Ever been to a casino?

You are always trying to be a party pooper.lol

Buff,

OK, you got me there. Church is a fine way to pick up some kinky babes.

But there's all that emotional baggage involved.

I have a solution: Make bars tax-exempt, like churches. They provide an essential function toward the betterment of mankind and facilitate the perpetuation of the species.

Mine eyes are opened, at long last. Thanks, bud.

Jank, You are right. They are difficult conversations. But as long as we continue to have them with mutual respect and honesty, we should be okay! Smiler
Now, I totally understand how you may be worried that you make Christians feel as though you are putting down. But, this is how I see it- none of us are in a position to put anyone down. We are all walking our own paths. Neither path is superior. We are equal, on a level playing field. So, while Christians are at a disadvantage, so to speak, as we do not have concrete evidence to support our faith, that very faith strengthens me to negate the NEED for evidence. I don't know if that makes sense- probably not- lol. .....
Bottom line- we all have our own reasons for believing as we do, and it is most natural to wish to pass what brings US the most peace and happiness to our children. Smiler
Cheers!

Hi VP,

Do you really mean this? I pray that you do and that we can have civil dialogues without accusations of LIE, you are LYING, etc.

When I give my opinion, I back it with Scripture. Yet you accuse me of lying. Why? If that is what Scripture says -- how am I lying?

I would sincerely love to have civil discussions with you. I pray that you sincerely mean what you told Jan.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Hi Crusty,

Thank you! Imitation is the highest form of flattery -- or so I have been told. I love it when you declare to the folks on the Religion Forum, "I respect Bill Gray so much -- that I love to copy his graphics and his style!"

Wow! Thank you, my Friend,

Bill

Delusional.

But I would expect nothing less from someone who is half Calvin/half Arminian.
