I was extremely disappointed to read the following ignorant (either unintentionally or willfully) misinformed comment printed in Tuesday’s Times Daily “You Said It” section:

"This is to all the folks out there who are supporting Barack Obama. Think about this. Do we really want someone in Washington, D.C., who takes his oath of office on the Koran? That would be great, wouldn't it, to have Obama in Washington, D.C., and Osama in Afghanistan. There's really not a lot of difference between the two."

While I am not a huge fan of Barack Obama, I believe that no candidate deserves to have his personal religious beliefs so blatantly misrepresented as your caller has done. Mr. Obama happens to be a Christian. Personally, I don’t mind if an official chooses to take his or her oath of office on a Bible, the Koran, the Torah, the Tao, or any other religious book, so long as the teachings of that book do not conflict with my own beliefs.

The fact that the Times Daily printed this obviously untrue distortion and misrepresentation of Mr. Obama’s faith is indeed shameful. Of course the Times Daily cannot control the beliefs and misperceptions of all of those who read its paper and call in to your “You Said It” line. But it is absolutely inexcusable that your newspaper would choose to print and disseminate to your readers this untruth.

No doubt many who read the above comments which inaccurately portray Mr. Obama’s beliefs will assume that, because it is printed in a “respected” newspaper, it must be true.

Shame on whoever was responsible for printing this lie! Who will be next? Does your newspaper print all comments called in to the “You Said It” line, even if they are blatant lies? Perhaps next you can print some type of distortion of Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith or a comment saying that John McCain is really a closet Jew?

This type of “journalism” only helps to promote hatred and discrimination instead of peace, harmony, and diversity.

People can read for themselfs and see what His (Obama's ) Church has to say about being a member there. And a Phone call has been made to verify that Obama is a member of the Church .

http://www.tucc.org/about.htm

So tell me Peace Brother why would we want a man to be President of the USA that has pledge his allegiance to Africa ? Help me to understand this .

Their mission

Mission Statement: What Trinity Is About

Trinity United Church of Christ has been called by God to be a congregation that is not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and that does not apologize for its African roots! As a congregation of baptized believers, we are called to be agents of liberation not only for the oppressed, but for all of God’s family. We, as a church family, acknowledge, that we will, building on this affirmation of "who we are" and "whose we are," call men, women, boys and girls to the liberating love of Jesus Christ, inviting them to become a part of the church universal, responding to Jesus’ command that we go into all the world and make disciples!

We are called out to be "a chosen people" that pays no attention to socio-economic or educational backgrounds. We are made up of the highly educated and the uneducated. Our congregation is a combination of the haves and the have-nots; the economically disadvantaged, the under-class, the unemployed and the employable.

The fortunate who are among us combine forces with the less fortunate to become agents of change for God who is not pleased with America’s economic mal-distribution!

W.E.B. DuBois indicated that the problem in the 20th century was going to be the problem of the color line. He was absolutely correct. Our job as servants of God is to address that problem and eradicate it in the name of Him who came for the whole world by calling all men, women, boys and girls to Christ.

The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:

A congregation committed to ADORATION.
A congregation preaching SALVATION.
A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION.
A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.
A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION.
A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION.
A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA.
A congregation committed to LIBERATION.
A congregation committed to RESTORATION.
A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.

I don't see anything wrong with that? I don't see where he has to "pledge his allegiance" to Africa, although I do see that the church has a committment to Africa. Sounds nice; I hope they can do some good there.

TNT, do you know where Obama stands on any of the issues, or do you just know what you've read about him in various emails forwards?
You can read more about what is truth and what is lies at snopes.com by clicking on the link below:

And by the way tnt, I never suggested that anyone vote for Barrack Osama Bin Laden! The point of my post is that the Times Daily seems to enjoy printing falsehoods in its paper.

How would you like it if they printed in their paper that you were a fanatic muslim fundamentalist and akin to the real Osama??

.... looks like someone else has fallen for the Repugnant's vicious false propaganda.....

What muslim upbringing are you referring to? The one you got in the phoney propaganda email like the one I got today??

People, just because you HEAR something, or you see it on TV, or read it in the venerable Times Daily newspaper, does NOT mean that it is true.
As both Obama's father and step father were nominally muslim, he received about two hours a week of instruction in the muslim religion in third and fourth grade and occasionally, as a child, accompanied his step father to the mosque for prayer, does not make him a muslim in christian eyes.

But, it does make him a muslim in many muslim eyes. His worse danger may be from muslims who consider him an apostate.

I have no doubt that the people at the Times Daily knew he was a Christian. Anyone who follows current events would know that. I can't fault the person who said but the TD shouldn't have printed it. If I had made a comment in the "you said it" section regarding my concern for Obama melting as black people are made out of butter it wouldn't have made it into the paper.

I think a lot of this comes from Hillary supporters in the media.

He did attend Muslim Schools (AND CATHOLIC SCHOOLS) for 4-5 years during his formative years before moving back to the USA.

THAT is on snopes as being TRUE.

Formative years does indeed help mold a child.

I am not bashing him or his religion, but I want to face the fact head-on that I do NOT want someone who went to a Muslim School for any length of time being Leader of our Country.

That is my opinion, like it or not.
Obama attended Catholic school during the 3rd and 4th grades. Because his step father was a muslim, Obama's record showed his as a muslim. Christians receive 2 hour a week of christian training and muslims received 2 hours a week of muslim training. Hardly a madrassa indoctrination course of instruction.

I won't vote for him because he's too leftward and still a naif in world affairs.
Here is the straight stuff from Snopes!

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

The lying scum of Insight magazine and the Washington Times (a Moonie rag) have propagated gross lies alleging Muslim connection for Obama that NEVER EXISTED. Read the Snopes piece and decide for yourself what is the TRUTH in these matters.

There are still persons who are either malicious and unprincipled, or abject syphilitic drooling fools or who are too brain-addled to think straight who will continue to propagate these lies.

Shame on them and shame on those who unquestioningly read and pass on their drivel and tripe without making any effort to investigate and either verify or de-bunk.
You guys can't pick and choose which words y'all want to use that snopes has put forth as the truth.

HE DID GO TO MUSLIM AND CATHOLIC SCHOOLS FOR 4-5 YEARS.

Now, believe me, I am sure he is a good family man, but with a clear conscience, I can't cast a vote for ANYONE who has ties with ANY Muslim community, not after 9/11.

Call me what you will, say what you want, but it just is NOT going to happen in my world.

I have no love for Obama: But the picture of him without his hand over his heart wasn't during the Pledge of Allegiance, it was during the National Anthem.

Yes! Thank you Sassy for, once again, pointing that out. If you will notice towards the end of the video in this link:

http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Obama_doesnt_put_hand_over_heart_1022.html

The ONLY ones doing this correctly are Dodd, Edwards, and Biden. They are actually turned around backwards facing the flag! It would appear that Obama, Richardson, and Hillary were put in a bad spot. I don't care if you don't want to vote for Obama. But don't not vote for him for this stupid blown way out of proportion incident. I'm an Edwards man myself. And he was doing it right!

Like I said. I don't care who or why you're voting or not voting for. But YOU are the one that regurgitated this BS.

That's what is called regurgitating bs! You regurgitated it!
I wonder just how relevant any of that can be.
What we have now is a Methodist of about 20 years.
Methodist are Christian - I know , that is what denomination I am now.
Even tho Bush is a Methodist (Christian) , no one of any religion or for that fact no religion could have done a worse job.
Goes to show much of that dosn't matter.

Some idiot will come up with a cross feed to Skull and Bones and 9/11. LOL!

At first I was going to have fun and crack a joke but then I really found that Bush is all of
what you said. As you know he was in Skull and Bones, and you can read the info below for the Methodist connection. LOL

It must be a conspiracy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After obtaining an MBA from Harvard University,[30] Bush entered the oil industry in Texas. In 1977, he was introduced by friends to Laura Welch, a schoolteacher and librarian. They married and settled in Midland, Texas. Bush left his family's Episcopal Church to join his wife's United Methodist Church.[1]

Anyone who believes everything they read in the paper is sadly misguided.

I'm all for printing any opinion in the paper as long as the writer's/caller's name is confirmed and printed. I like to know the names of the people I think are idiots.

I agree with you on all this except that this is necessarily a Republican tactic. Hillary's camp tried putting this smear out, and got caught.

I went to a Lutheran school for two years, and a Presbyterian College for four. Does that make me either?
