Rocky, you are correct. As a recovering republican, that is the worst, no talent list of candidates since I can remember.
The Republican party has a few excellent stars, but they won't toe the "take care of the rich man" party line, and therefore recieve no national support.

As long as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity drive the agenda, the repubs have no chance in 04. The republican party needs to do some soul searching and come up with a PRO-American agenda and renounce the 30 plus years of trickle down as the abysmal failure that it is.

Skip, you are wrong on this one.
People don't have "Obama" fatigue the way they had "Bush" fatigue, YET!
The best thing the GOP could do is start to repair their image NOW by dropping ties with the tea party whackos.
When pigs fly, there will be an independent candidate who is electable that will genuinely have the interest of the country at heart and not be a yes man to corporations and Wall Street.

According to the latest pool voters DO have Obama fatigue. He's not only losing liberal support he is losing the black and Latino vote. I'm not saying this loss of support will go to the republicans or an independant but what it means is they will sit at home and not vote. That will spell big trouble for the "O". Did media matters send out an email about pigs flying, that's twice in one day a lefty has used that phrase.

ferellj, pre-election this statement may have been true. Post election, he is simply to me the "lesser of two evils"
BUT REMEMBER: democrats ARE the lesser RIGHT NOW and given the path the GOP has decided to follow, may be for some time to come!
The more I study politics and the way the country is manipulated by Wall Street, "Yes, we can" has been replaced in my thinking by the mantra "But, we didn't"

Rocky (I'm thinking pebbles), what GOP path are you referring to? The one that says the government is spending ourselves into banktruptcy and it must be stopped?

I'm referring to the GOP that gave us 4.5 trillion debt under reagan and then 14 trillion under Bush.
It's total bull hockey that the GOP is for balanced bugets and smaller government.

You're wrong. BushIIe doubled the national debt. OBama is certainly on track to do the same but has only added about $3Trillion so far.

I see that you cannot give a defense for the last 30 years of Republican rule but must go back ( As crazy as that is) to the civil war for justification for the american citizen to give your party the keys to the Porshe.
Hello!!! The last Democratic president RAISED taxes on the rich, spent 50 billion in stimulus, and balanced the budget with surplus his last year. You have no RTepublican president in the last 30 years that has even come close to this.

With no fanfare and little notice, the national debt has grown by more than $4 trillion during George W. Bush's presidency.

It's the biggest increase under any president in U.S history.

On the day President Bush took office, the national debt stood at $5.727 trillion. The latest number from the Treasury Department shows the national debt now stands at more than $9.849 trillion. That's a 71.9 percent increase on Mr. Bush's watch. (8 years)

Now let's start with 9.8 trillion for Obama. He's been in less than 3 years and we have 14 trillion. That's almost 5 trillion in 2 and a half years. What will it be in (God forbid) 8 years?

B50,
i agree with you but with reservations.
#1. The figures you quote do not include the numbers from the bailout which actually pushed the deficit up to almost 12 trillion.
#2. The republicans have been given numerous opportunities to reduce the deficit including the latest cave in last friday. They caved in and cut 38 billion but allowed another ONE TRILLION to be asdded to the debt.
When the republicans actually DO SOMETHING SUBSTANTIVE about the deficit, then the limbaugh fanatics on this board will finally have a real debate point. Let's fACE IT, the repubs have been an abysmal failure, I have no idea why anyone even defends them on this board.
If you mean TARP, Bush only spent the first half, Obama got the second plus his own stimubust amount. TARP has been paid back for the most part. That cancels it for Bush.

As for the repubs caving, yep, they did but look at it another way. The dems offered a measly 4 billion to start. They gave up 38 billion. A gain of 34b that the repubs got. In this case 73, the glass was empty and the repubs at least got an amount you can measure, small, but a start.

And boehner promised 100 billlion in cuts and caved to 38 billion. That 62 billion short. It seems to me the dems won that round.

Actually, he got $4 billion on the first 2-week CR, $6 billion on the three week CR, $2 billion on the present 6-day CR and $38.5 billion on the oncoming one for a total of $50.5 billion. As most of the cuts are for recurring expenses, that projects to $500 billion for 10-years. A nice down payment.

Not very good at math are you, Ranger:

"Ronald Reagan’s First Term – $656 billion increase
Ronald Reagan’s Second Term – $1.036 trillion increase for a total of $1.692 trillion, not $4 trillion."

Too much, but not $4 trillion

"Current Obama administration projections indicate that the National Debt will increase by approximately $6.5 trillion during President Obama’s first term."

Sorry, but with a 1.5 trillion dollar deficit in this budget, that ain't nothing. The congress has the power of the purse strings and we found out they are wimps.

Ferrell,
We have to stop thinking in terms of democrat verses republican or we will never break the Hegalian Dialectic we are trapped in as a country. Reject both parties, demand accountability from both parties.

Can't argue with you there. However, there is only one side at this time that has a few members that understand what our country needs. They are mostly freshmen Senators. Hopefully they don't give up.
