I do not like Obama one bit, but the man does need his "down time". That job has more stress and he is constantly on call. He needs breaks away. Most of those cost are sunk costs any way such as salary for security detail, meaning they would be spent wether they are in washington or at the beach. Plus, the man does give us so many other things to complain about we do not have to reach for smaller things.

About 63% approve of Obama's job performance, but I will give you the poll averages to be fair. Its fairly clear that you are part of the 20 something % who will find fault with him no matter what. Still, I think it very fair of you to admit that the little trip to N.Y. is not such a big deal.

Sorry your argument doesn't wash. The country wasn't BROKE back then. Remember we where coming out of the glorious Clinton years....
Besides, it time to STOP going back to Bush and start looking a the REALITY OF TODAY!!!
Yea, I guess I am part of the 20%, but I also found fault with Bush Clinton Bush and was not really old enough for Ronald ( I was only 12 when he left office). But I am a small gov't person and he and as you pointed out a growing portion of our country or for more gov't involvment so most of his actions have been against my nature but I he has a done a few things I have agreed with. One thing I will complement him on and it is one of the things I liked about Bush. I think both of them made decisions based on what they thought was best, not what a poll says. I didn't feel that way about Clinton.

So your argument is that President Obama must stay in the White House all the time? Really? It may not serve your purpose to look back for the sake of comparison but, it will work. 49 trips to Crawford, in the first 5 years of the Bush Presidency and the associated costs could have saved the tax payers millions and millions. Wonder why the "conservatives" did not think of that back then?

Oh, and we will remind you of the glorious Bush years for as long you reminded us of the Clinton years. According to your post, you are still reminding us of the Clinton years. You do not get to make up the rules according to your best interest for this genial debate.

I think you are a fair observer.

Perhaps congress needs to pass a bill (won't happen until after 2010) that the President's use of governmental transportation/employees should be limited to OFFICIAL business ONLY!!! Unless they want to pay for it out of their salary (Obama's are millionaires and could have easily afforded it-besides the Broadway tickets were probably free).

As far as Clinton, I voted for the man - TWICE!!! Don't give me your liberal BS woman. I was merely pointing out the country was not in as disparate of financial straits as we are now. It's time to face reality, hard as it sometimes for some.

Be mad. The majority of Americans have bigger worries than this "tempest in a teapot". Yes, they do. Like feeding their families and paying their bills. Too bad they can't take THEIR wives to see a Broadway show on someone else's money, huh?

P.S. I don't give a rats ass who you voted for.
Awww gee whiz I thought you guys were trying hard to win over the INDEPENDENT vote. YOU were the one who went off the deep end when I mentioned Clinton. What's the matter, didn't you get YOUR cigar?

You are not worth "winning over". I would prefer you stick with the 20 something % of whining, angry, losers who will find fault with President Obama NO MATTER WHAT.

It would also figure that you would resort to some sexual innuendo as a method of trying to insult a woman when your debate skills falter. Fortunately for me 20 years in DHS exposed me to the big men with "tiny bits" who like to say things like that in order to intimidate, or demean. They are the same ones who smack women around and have control and anger management problems.
And once again meanie resorts to name calling and insults instead of debating the REAL issue.

Should taxpayers have footed the bill for Obama's private jet (remember all the indignation from him when the CEO's came to town in their private jets)? Also, who is footing the security bill for all the secret service and NYC police on alert? I say if he wants to go on a "date" let him pay.

And meanie just so you know, there has been one thing I glad he came to his senses (after being persuaded) - he decided not to release the photos. Of course, for the sake of "transparency" it would be nice if the WH released the costs of this "date" and who was in Air Force One on it's flyover that scared the crap out of so many people that day.
I think the fact that they could have stayed a little closer to 'home' may have something to do with it. I'm not sure 3 small airplanes are cheaper than one big one.
I don't get the concept of 'date night' any way.

For the evening, the first couple jetted to New York City for date night.

They dined a little more than two hours at Blue Hill, a West Village restaurant, then headed to the Belasco Theater to make it in time for "Joe Turner's Come and Gone."

If the Obamas wanted to catch a show closer to the White House, they had some choices in Washington: Tom Stoppard's "Arcadia" at the Folger Elizabethan Theatre; Valerie Harper in "Looped" at the Lincoln Theatre; "Rent," at the Warner Theatre; Noel Coward's "Design for Living" at the Shakespeare Theatre Company; or Stoppard's "Rock 'n' Roll" at the Studio Theatre.

Reporters weren't allowed to see the soccer game. The Obamas took a smaller plane than the jumbo jet he usually uses. White House staff and reporters flew in two similar aircraft.

I did not accuse the BIG REDBULL of hitting women. I said his sexually demeaning language was typical of men who DO physically and emotionally abuse women. Go back and read. What did the sexual reference of the "cigar" have to do with the discussion? Well? Sorry, I just don't think that is appropriate. Would you approve of some man saying that to YOUR wife? " You wishing you got that CIGAR, honey?.....Hehehe.........". Would you use that in a reasonable political discussion with a man?

In all fairness, the 49 trips in five years made by former President Bush to Crawford was at the tax payers expense. I don't expect anyone to stay in that cloistered, stuffy fortress (the White House) day in and day out. Every time they walk out the door it costs a fortune. I hope they had a nice evening and I hope the Bush's enjoyed the familiarity of their Ranch. That was the least of my problems with the Bush presidency.

"What's the matter, didn't you get YOUR cigar?"

The intent is clear - give me a break. That had nothing to do with the subject we were discussing. It pretty much cut off any reasonable debate on the subject at hand. Like I said, you tried to control the debate, limit the discussion and when you realized you could not you thought up some unrelated demeaning sexual reference. If you only want people to agree with you, or do not want open participation on a subject, then keep it a a private topic.

It pretty much cut off any reasonable debate on the subject at hand. Like I said, you tried to control the debate, You dear woman need to go back and reread these posts. This thread was started to discuss Obama's date night - YOU are the one who got off topic first. limit the discussion and when you realized you could not you thought up some unrelated demeaning sexual reference. I'll put my debating skills next to yours any day. If you only want people to agree with you, or do not want open participation on a subject, then keep it a a private topic. I could care less if folks agree with me or not on this forum. And I definitely don't give a rat's ass if you ever agree with me, woman. (you are a woman, aren't you?)

I think you hit the nail on the head. I read that a box at Lincoln Kennedy Center is reserved for the President. I'll bet that many of the other venues you listed do too. It's a whole lot cheaper to drive across town than to fly to NYC.

Also, why are we flying reporters from DC to NYC? Don't most of the news organizations that have regulars in the White House have offices in NYC? And why would you bring them along on a date, anyway?

Very good question. Why would you bring the press on a date? That's what I call a REAL PDA (public display of affection). Someone said last night on one of those shows on tv they could have gone to Kennedy Performing Arts Center, WALKED (it IS greener to walk!) along the Potomac and even packed a late night picnic prepared by ANY renowned restaurant in town. If they wanted to get out of town for a quick trip - Baltimore Harbor is a great place, or Chesapeake Bay, etc.
