Hooters is  a second-rate establishment that solicits patronage from emotionally arrested and insecure males.  I ate at a Hooters in North Carolina some years ago when it was the only place open late at night after I had worked for 30 hours straight.  The alleged "steak" they served me was a strictly non-guaranteed hunk of gristle from an elderly, cactus-fed gully jumper.

Nobody goes to Hooters for steak.  It's a wang kind'a place.

It's just as close to a beer joint as our politicians will let us get.  Hooters is intended to be a low brow institution.

The waitresses have to be real characters to work at such a place.  They're full of life.

They do have great sandwiches, however I usually just stick with wings.

Don't loose all hope for when I ate at the Huntsville Longhorn I did ask if they had plans to expand into this area and then I was told it was a possibility for 2013 but it was also between this area and Scottsboro (don't know where that came from).  One thing that doesn't bode well for Longhorn is that the company that owns them is not doing as well these days and therefore may not be looking to expand as much.  I believe that they are owned by Darden foods which also owns Olive Garden and Red Lobster and so many didn't believe an Olive Garden was possible.  So maybe there is hope, I sure hope so because Longhorn is so superior to Lone Star or any of the others here.  Let's just hope.

As for Hooters I too would like to see Hooters for I do like their wings better than Buffalo Wild Wings and their steamed Crab legs are also great and at times a very good deal when on sale.  I doubt though that we'll see a Hooters anytime soon and if given the choice between them and Longhorn I'd go for Longhorn any day.

Also remember that Wentzel's seafood has expressed interest in expanding into this area or at least that's what I heard about a year ago.  I don't know who purchased Demo's but that restaurant/building is also available.

Demos' building is going to be modified into a large sports bar restaurant by guys running a 3 restaurant chain in Nashville that's been voted #1 sports bar 10 years running.  They're also taking over Dales downtown and will be blending Dales current menu with some of their sports bar favorites.  Construction should be heavy starting this month.

I just wonder how much business there is in this medium size restaurant market?  Some of our national restaurant chains are doing great, and some are doing less than good in sales.

The medium priced restaurant business is very competitive, and the successful operators will be the ones with the best management.  (Hear that FloBama?)  It takes strong marketing and consistent, relatively high quality food.

Nobody got poisoned at O'Charley's  Some nitwit redneck spread a little elemental mercury around the premises.  Mercury in this form is not a terrible threat, as explained in Wikipedia:

"Quicksilver (liquid metallic mercury) is poorly absorbed by ingestion and skin contact. It is hazardous due to its potential to release mercury vapor. Animal data indicate less than 0.01% of ingested mercury is absorbed through the intact gastrointestinal tract, though it may not be true for individuals suffering from ileus. Cases of systemic toxicity from accidental swallowing are rare, and attempted suicide via intravenous injection does not appear to result in systemic toxicity.[18] Though not studied quantitatively, the physical properties of liquid elemental mercury limit its absorption through intact skin and in light of its very low absorption rate from the gastrointestinal tract, skin absorption would not be high.[19] Some mercury vapor is absorbed dermally, but uptake by this route is only about 1% of that by inhalation.[20]"

I don't think there was any dire danger of human toxic effects from a little elemental mercury scattered around at O'Charley's. The  nutjob who did the dirty work there was obviously some ignorant bozo who didn't know much about chemistry. The mercury released by the Diamond Shamrock plant and successive operations under other names in Muscle Shoals has probably put more mercury into human systems in this area than would  10 thousand saltings of elemental mercury in the clumsy way it was done at O'Charley's.

Longhorn Steakhouse?  Hope springs eternal - and I got my Publix!

Well earthmomma, I started/posted another topic called Longhorn Steakhouse, where I relayed what I was told by another of Darden Food's (owner of Longhorn, Olive Garden & Red Lobster) employees that it was in the plans to put a Longhorn Steakhouse here in the Florence area sometime before the end of 2013.  The didn't indicate where or how certain it was but hope does spring eternal.

No man goes to Hooters for the food. It's all about the boobs that's falling out of those Hooter shirts.

If I wanted to see boobs, I would go to a strip club! I have never one time seen any boobs falling out of any H00ter's shirts.

Any man, or woman with any amount of imagination can see walking through the mall the same thing you will see in H00ter's. Yes I go to H00ter's for the food!

Actually when I've gone to Hooters I go, usually, for the Crab Legs where are always very good and usually very reasonably priced.  Other than that they do have pretty good wings also but while there I have to say certainly when a very beautiful girl walks by any man will take notice but that goes for any restaurant.  As for unclegus statement I have to agree I've, in the times I've been there, never seen any, umm,  breast falling out.  In semi's favor though I think she was referring to bulging out the top busting out rather than drooping as I think it was taken.  Also I do have to admit that there certainly are people who go there just for the waitresses rather than the food.
