Why do we eat so much on Thanksgiving Day? Is it because we're suppose too? I ate turkey, dressing, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, smash taters, rolls, and pumpkin pie.

I'm really hurting now. Anyone got a Tums?

My "spilling over the sides" plate consisted of:
Turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, mac n' cheese, green beans, sweet potato casserole, corn casserole, baked beans, deviled eggs, seven layered salad, and buttered rolls.....
thanks to my great sister-in-law! I know that I ate so much because I didn't have to cook it!!!
Everything tastes so much better when it's cooked by somebody else!

But, just when I thought I could come home and roll around on the couch......I remembered that I had to cook for the potluck lunch @ work tomorrow Red Face Yep, it sucked, but I was the nice co-worker and did it anyway....
Why do we eat so much? Its because of years of training by Mom to "clean up that plate". Big Grin

I did try to restrain myself - turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, a roll, spinach casserole and squash casserole. Notice I didn't have mashed potatoes or gravy? Razzer

One piece of sweet potato pie with Cool Whip and a slice of Friendship Fruit cake.

And let's not even go to the plate I had later in the evening. Roll Eyes
You asked two questions.

In the topic, you asked a personal question, posited to the readers, as if you had/have no answer to the question.

However, in your post, you ask a generalized question, as if it true.

Now, your supposition is that "we eat so much," and the unwritten but implication is that 'we all,' simply because we is the readers of the post.

But, there is a flaw.

And it is evident in your next sentence.

Suddenly, you go from personal, to impersonal, then return to personal.

That's like making a turkey sandwich with bread in the middle (and turkey on the outsides).

Not everyone gorges themselves on Thanksgiving Day. However, it is a day of giving thanks to the Almighty for all His many blessings to us, and we especially celebrate it during late harvest, thus the feasting we so wonderfully enjoy.

But, more to the point: You had a disease. It's called "eyes bigger than the stomach."

We should ALL be thankful that we have food to - quite literally - throw into the garbage disposal and trashcan!

Other brothers and sisters throughout the world would run all over themselves just to have ONE pie, or ONE leg of turkey, or ONE casserole.

Now... we're blessed, not by our own hands, but "by His hands, we are fed. Thank you LORD for daily bread. Amen."

And you don't want to hurt anyone's feelings by not eating what they've cooked....or, if you did the cooking yourself, you figure as long as you went through all that trouble you might as well eat what you've cooked.
