Hardly. "It" seems to be struggling for support, its chief partisans coming from sectors with little political power. The governor of the state believes it would be an unnecessary innovation. He is correct.
If they called for volunteers for a new state militia, one can just imagine the lining up of wild-eyed nutty types who would be unfit for service. To weed out the crazies from other volunteers would doubtlessly require a pretty large staff of phychologists and psychiatrists. Without careful screening, this "militia," in the unlikely event that it ever came into being, could become the refuge of a lot of armed and ignorant wackos!
