Hardly. "It" seems to be struggling for support, its chief partisans coming from sectors with little political power. The governor of the state believes it would be an unnecessary innovation. He is correct.

If they called for volunteers for a new state militia, one can just imagine the lining up of wild-eyed nutty types who would be unfit for service. To weed out the crazies from other volunteers would doubtlessly require a pretty large staff of phychologists and psychiatrists. Without careful screening, this "militia," in the unlikely event that it ever came into being, could become the refuge of a lot of armed and ignorant wackos!
It's not often that I agree with betternu but I don't think this is a good idea "at this time". There is still a lot of work to be done politically. I do strongly believe in states rights and I would never agree to anything the federal government would do to stop the states ability to form a militia if the need arises. We're just not there yet.
