Pathetic how desperate some folks are to gain attention via shock statements.

Cutest little neighbor lady, said four months ago she felt as fine as they come, didn't even take an aspirin, then got her 'old folks' insurance and let them talk her into a 'wellness physical' or whatever it is they get. All sorts of tests, which keep coming back OK, but now she's on an aspirin a day and three or four more prescriptions, and feels like death warmed over. She said she's the sickest healthy person you'd ever want to see. BP is so low it's scary, and she said the doctor said, "low is good"!

Update, sorta. She said her leg and foot swelled up like a balloon. She had an appointment with one doctor, he sees her leg and foot and sends her to her "primary care"? doctor. They had weighed her and she had gained a bit of weight. The doctor comes in, he asks her how she feels, she says OK but she's not happy with the weight gain, and will have to do something about that. He checks her leg and foot, keeps asking her if she hurt herself. She keeps saying only if you can hurt yourself sitting on your *** sewing. That was what she'd been doing that morning. He sends her to have the leg checked for a blood clot. She didn't notice until she got there, she's reading the write up of her visit to him, and he's put that she has the swollen leg and foot and that she ask if it could be related to her weight gain!!! She tells the woman doing the test that she had not asked the doctor any such thing!!  She had only mentioned to him that she was unhappy with the weight gain and would have to 'get a handle' on it . The woman is sympathetic and has a doctor story of her own. No blood clot, no answer or suggestion from doctor about what it could be making her leg and foot swell, but she suspects it's one of the meds they have her on. It's sad to know how she was a few months ago, and what she's going through now. She keeps saying, if only she hadn't let them talk her into that check-up.

Who helps these folks when they get tangled up in the 'system'? She's been warned that she can't just stop taking the meds, even though she was under the impression that some of them were for a short time only. It's a mess. I wish I could help her but I can't figure it out either. Bounced from doctor to doctor for test after test, tests coming back normal/OK, but ending up on another prescription. It's crazy. Not to mention it is costing her money, even with the 'old folks' insurance. She took her last test, she hopes, that this doctor ordered, so she is going to change doctors.

If she is taking medicine for blood pressure, some of it will really enervate you until your body gets use to it.  Best bet is to take it at night -- acts like a sleeping pill.

Sometimes people just go along with what Drs. say. Some Drs. order tests because they don't know what to do or they are covering their own butts. Best, do you know if she has said to the Dr./Drs. "Hey! No more drugs or tests. Stop passing the buck. I was fine until I started these drugs, can you take me off of them?"

From dealing with the in-laws I know they wouldn't tell the Drs. how they felt or everything that was wrong because " The Drs. should know that. " or "they can't do anything about it." or "I didn't want to bother them." etc.

My mom spent years getting her blood pressure medicine right. She had trouble with a lot of different ones causing her to feel bad until they found one that worked without bad side effects. Sometimes they just have to try different ones.

Drs. aren't gods. We all have to be our own best health advocate. Older people especially seem to not want to question Drs.

In my mind, I still think of myself as being about 25, and have for over 40 years.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember last month when that couple in Georgia answered a Craigslist ad for a car and were murdered? They were called "elderly" in the reports, they were in their mid 60's. I am in my 50's and it shocked me to find I am knocking on "elderly" 's door. There was a big ad in Sunday's paper for theraputic massages. There were massages for deep tissue, for pregnancy, for sports and the one for people 60+ was called the "geriatric" massage.

When you feel like you are 30 or 40 but realize you are actually close to elderly and geriatric is a bummer.

Well I'm 46 and still have a little time left before others start calling me elderly, or a senior. In my mind I am still around 25.  I had some health issues last year and after being sent to several specialist and taking a metric sh*t ton of meds, I finally decided that the best thing for me was to just stop it all. I had recovered from my initial illness and the more I went to these doctors the more meds they wanted to put me on for things that I had not even had issues with.

Already have a Cane and have had many letters from AARP, just hanging on, wish People would not park in the cripple parking spaces that don't need to, see women at Wal-Mart that I feel sorry for the little Buggy, their only problem is that they are so fat that they can't walk, I know that there are some People that has a problem that everything they eat turns to fat and there are some that loves to eat.

All I know is all her tests are normal or OK, but they have her on meds. I could ask her, but she has said she is changing doctors, and I think has an appointment sometime in March with her new one, and she's said she is going to see if he will take her off the meds. Most likely she has told the doctor the meds make her feel bad.

According to the AARP link, I must have received my notice of eligibility around 50 years old and I remember thinking, though things were a lot better then, who can afford to retire.  Or as long as my health is good and I enjoy what I'm doing, why would I want to until I have to?

So AARP considers 50 to be retirement age, and when I was 20, I did think 50 was old.  But when I reached 50, I knew wasn't near old.  It makes me wonder if AARP is run by a bunch of 20 year olds.

My mother was eligible for AARP 49 years ago.  She needs reading glasses, but don't dare call her old.  She believes 100 is old.

Hey Crusty, when I received my AARP letter, I was still rockin' & rollin'.  Instead of picking up a cane, I picked up an M-60 machine gun.

Jank, I wish you well for a very long time before you label yourself either senior or elderly.

Rather old fashioned. I prefer the Thompson model with the flashlight, retractable bayonet and 30 round magazine.

I doubt I will ever label myself elderly or senior. LOL I intend on embarrassing my children with age inappropriateness till the day I die.

Took my helmet off the day before my 60th birthday.  They let me keep it just in case.
