Late Breaking News on the Home Page tells about Deb shooting Sonny Kimbrough.

I have known both of them for so many years and watched her kids grow up, and also her grandkids get bigger.

This just blows mmy mind!!!

Does anyone know more than what is on Times Daily??

That tells more about it than Times Daily does, especially if you listen to the video.

I don't know if anyone knows who they are, but they once owned about 7 Fireworks Stands here in the area. They sold them about 3 years ago and then opened Party World on Avalon Ave in Muscle Shoals.

Sonny was retired from Saginaw in Decatur.

This is one shocking development for MY day.

Allegedly shooting Sonny. Just because Debbie was found hiding under a pier with a pistol in her hand does not mean she did it. Innocent until proven gulity.

I agree Jimbo!!! But she has confessed to doing it, in his sleep. If he had of been awake I would have definitely said it was probably self defense, but in his sleep is more difficult to think.

I guess I am just in shock.

TAC, if you don't know them, your brother and wife will.

I remember Sonny from 30 year ago. His son (by his first wife) and I were best friends at one time until we moved away. He took me to my first Alabama football game. I believe he at one time owned or ran Kimbrough Auto Parts years ago in Cherokee.

Sonny worked at the Automobile Plant in Decatur, Saginaw. He was retired from there.

He MAY have owned a parts store, but I haven't heard him say anything about it.

We've known them for a long time. Used to see them eating at the Waffle House and The Depot a lot. They always decorated their house up a lot for christmas. I think for a while they had santa clause at their house in red rock. Sad story and i was shocked when i read it.

Oh yeah, Waffle House days!!! Heck, I even remember the good 'ole Biscuit Village Days!!!
I saw the link, and immediately PM'ed mom, because we've known them forever.

This is just completely heartbreaking. I have to agree with Joy, she must have wigged out, because Sonny was always so nice. Frowner I don't know what happened but I'd never have thought she'd do something like this.

Before I got sick, I was going to go work with them at Party World.

My thoughts, my prayers and my heart totally go out to their kids. Frowner I can't imagine what they are going through.

There are just no other words, I'm flabbergasted.

The Hospital,as I understand, refuse to take her and told him to take her back home...

Why would they refuse to take her? Seems that hospital could be held responsible.

Taciturn , I'm with you on that question too. Just like some of these shootings across the country that have been going on lately. Every time something happens there's some mental thing involved.

If is was Shoals Hospital ......"and this is true" I TOTALLY see where that might happen....I am divorced and my child lived with her father ..my child came to me saying she wanted to die and wanted help... ( a cutter) .....she told me ..3 nurses..a person from decatur west ..and the ER dr. ........after being at the ER for HOURS...... she wanted to go home.....they let her leave....LUCKILY nothing happen .....but what if ..........i was under the impression if you were a harm to yourself or someone else they HAD to keep you..........
I was so sad to hear about Sonny this evening and what a loss to the community there will be.
I have heard that several children that went to Party World had to leave school when they found out this afternoon, because they were so upset about his passing in such a horrific manner. The children in this area truly loved him with all of their hearts as he did them as well.
I pray for the whole family.

Shoals Hospital and Helen Keller are not equipped to handle the person who does not have a clear mind or things of a psychologial nature. Only ECM handles patients like this, and Mrs. Kimbrough was not brought to ECM.
So, Shoals and Helen Keller would have to turn her away because they DO NOT have psychologists or psychiatrists there at those facilities
i understand that they do not have the capability of handling such a patient..but they DO have the capability of finding a facility that does. and DON'T try to tell me they don't. i know. i worked at HKMH. they really just don't want to take the time and effort. when a cardiac emergency comes in needing a cath ASAP...they send them to ECM, right? by ambulance... then why not send a psychiatric patient to ECM?
I will be the first to say,..."what tha"..

Here we have a couple by all appearances were living a happy existence together...which by the way is a rarity these days...
At least friends, neighbors thought so. Now! the family may have known something different but apparently never reflected it in their conversations.
Then "BOOM" one shot, one emotion, one act, one intent, one instant, one flash, and the entire facade crumbles as a dry sugar cookie in the hand of a small child.
The deep question is how does one couple who started out loving each other years before end up in a act of murder years later. Had they been having domestic problems but kept in secret? Was mental illness involved? Was domestic abuse involved? Is there a unknown third party in the wings that was the catalist?

All of these questions will be revealed as the investigation continues. The defense will bring out the ugly portions not to offend anyone, but in a effort to put forth the reason for the shooting and how emotions over rode logic that day.
This reminds me of the old Charlie Rich song, "NO ONE KNOWS WHAT GOES ON BEHIND CLOSE DOORS".

This acts like this bring into mind what does the state of marriage cause...does it destroy friendships, togetherness, built resentment,etc...some will say yes...some will say no....I say...I don't know...
But I assure you if I ever decide to get married again...all guns will be under lock and key with me holding the key...

I don't know them but R & J do. This is so sad. Were they having any kind of problems that you know of?

Since I was friends with both of them, I want to think that she was clinically depressed or on emotional overload.

The last time I sat and had coffee with them was in November. They seemed the same as always, but they were both very tired. They had just closed Party World, and both had worked all day.

The business they owned was a non-stop operated business, it was go-go-go from the moment they walked in the door, and I know for a fact neither one of them was used to that pace.

I thought the world of Sonny, he was funny, he was kind-hearted, he loved any child, he gave each and every person the benefit of the doubt unless they crossed him, (there was one, in particular) He was fun loving and would give anyone the shirt off his back. No telling how many children got into Party World free, if he knew the parent didn't have the money.

Deb was a very kind, very sweet woman. She was going through changes, but at her age, they were expected changes. She told me out of her own mouth she wasn't dealing with them too well and we sit there discussing doctors for that sort of problem. She laughed a lot, she was moodier than Sonny, but that isn't a put-down, it was just DEB.

They got married when her 2 daughters were very young, so Sonny is the one that raised them. Then when they had kids, Sonny and Deb thought the sun rose and set over those two granddaughters!!!! One of them was with them almost all the time before they opened Party World.

I am hoping and I am Praying that for some unknown reason her mentality was just to the point of wanting to die herself, and she just acted out without realizing she was doing it. I just can't SEE Deb kill Sonny, no way, no how. There HAS to be underlying reasons here.

As far as people taking mentally ill people to Keller or Shoals, they are SUPPOSED to send them, by ambulance, to ECM if suicidal!!! I asked a friend who works the ER about that and she said it was protocol on suicidal. Now if it was just some mental or hormonal problems they are supposed to make them an appointment at the Clinic in Florence.

There are just too many unanswered questions here. This one really breaks my heart!!!

I am sorry you and your daughter had to go through this. They ARE INDEED supposed to carry a suicidal person to ECM, either by ambulance or police car. They are NOT supposed to let them leave.

How sad they did that, but I am really glad that everything turned out in the long run.

I think the No One Knows What Goes On Behind Closed Doors must fit this. It is the only thing that makes sense in my mind.
