I will be working in the Orange Beach area next week, and looking for suggestions of where I can take my wife for a special night out. She is not overly fond of seafood.

Since I havn't been in nearly a year, I'm not familar as to what has closed/opened recently. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Try one of these places, both have the best romantic atmosphere of most other places in Orange Beach. They both have a variety of entrees and you do pay a little more. It has always been worth it to me. Check out their menus. Cafe-Grazie may be the best choice for both of you. Usually good shopping at San Roc Cay, live music (maybe only weekends this time of year) in the courtyard and a bar. It's all right there together. And if you would rather have wings one day there then Hooters is right down the road in Gulf Shores. Hazel's has a huge breakfast buffet, breffest!

Don't forget some of the most unforgettable places down there. Lambert's Cafe with their thrown rolls is a must see for visitors. It's totally Unique and out of Missouri and the food is also very tasty but man do they load you up with it.

Another thing you might do is take an evening (takes about an hour to hour and half) and drive over to Pensacola and check out a place called McGuires Pub. It was an old fire station years ago, converted into a restaurant, and has very good food. Lots of famous visitors and not so famous ones that have stapled dollars to the ceiling and walls over the years. Now there are over 300,000 dollars, estimated, to be hanging from the place. Beware though this place is not an inexpensive eatery. You will pay around $35.00 a steak or they even have a $100 Hamburger on the menu. They also have other items that are more reasonable but the atmosphere is one of a kind and well worth seeing if you are in the area.

Hope you enjoy your time down there
McGuire's Irish Pub--"Gluttony, Imbibery and Debauchery"--or so their motto is, or was the last time I was there. A fabulous place. The blackened amberjack was as good a fish dish I have eaten anywhere.

Caution, you right wingers--Tip O'Neill, former Democratic Speaker of the House, ate there and signed a photo that is hanging on the wall. Should your eyes inadvertently fall on the photo of Tip, the antidote is available in the form of a signed photo of John Wayne.
For a really fine lunch at reasonable prices, try the Beach Club's restaurant. They are several miles out on the Fort Morgan Peninsula, but it is a pretty drive and the food makes it worthwhile. They have the best sweet potato chips you will ever eat--cooked to order and not greasy like you will find at too many places that don't know how to cook this specialty.
I lived in Gulf Shores most of the '80's..not really a romantic place but Mikee's in Gulf Shores is excellent.. Eddie Spence owns it and they have the best blackened steak or fish ever! He also owns the Shrimp Basket's that are there..for a quick lunch..the food is great there also.. Are you and your wife going to the concerts? I am going and can't wait!!

You know I've been there several times and I've never (fortunately) seen that one. They usually set us in the moose head room along the Irish (Notre Dame) wall and being a Bama fan I don't object too much.

One additional CAUTION --- REALLY You better listen to this one.
IF you do have to visit the necessity room (A.K.A. Bathroom) which is all the way down a dark hall you best be on your top awareness. The MEN's room door actually has a large sign on it that says WOMEN and the Women's Room door has a large sign that says MEN and if you aren't careful in looking you'll have a red face when you find yourself facing the opposite sex in a place that you don't usually expect to see them. It's all innocent because the large MEN/WOMEN sign has a definite defined ARROW pointing to the other door but if you are in a hurry, as some are, or you aren't paying attention it can be missed.
For those interested I have created a new topic under the Food Topic board titled McGuires Irish Pub. This thread is a photo album that contains photos that I took while visiting McGuires Pub one trip. From these photos maybe you can get an idea of what betternU and I as well as others are telling about.

I might also say the best visit I had to McGuires was Thanksgiving week when the day after Thanksgiving (Friday night) several band members with bagpipes came through the whole restaurant on their way to a Church where they were going to play Christmas Music. They played several selections but the most memorable was when they played Amazing Grace .. Those bagpipes were ohh so memorable as they marched through the whole place playing as they walked through. Can't promise that still goes on but I'd make a trip down there just to hear that again.
No, we're going to miss the concerts, as we arrainged our schedules prior to that being posted. When we attempted to extend our stay, the rooms were already booked.

For all of those who have responded, I wanted to say thanks. She is looking forward to the trip with the exception of being required to drive her vehicle. Because I am going to work, I need my work vehicle as well as she needing her's.
I second McGuires last time tried the peppercorn steak it was great. Only thing I do not like is no Guinness and no their micro brew is not the same. Frowner

This is a nicer place. http://www.louisianalagniapperestaurant.com/

The best steak I ever had was at Jessie's "coffee rubbed"
14470 Oak Street
Magnolia Springs, Alabama 36555
It is a very nice local restaurant half way between Orange Beach and Fair Hope. Well Worth the drive. http://www.jessesrestaurant.com/
I always eat at Bubba's in OB. It's just one of my favorite places to eat. Gulf Side Grille in GS is good. But I usually get salads there along with the bucket drink. I finally ate at Cotton's. I have been going to OB/GS for over 30 yrs and finally decided to try it. Big Mistake. All seafood tasted the same regardless what it was.
