At the same time a front page article was lamenting the lessening of teens' vocabulary, the writer of an op-ed piece on downtown Florence used the word out-migration. Could he have possibly meant emmigration?
I'll jump in here for a second as long as we're discussion vocabulary. It seems like rappers, vanity plates, graffiti, slang, and text messaging have all contributed to "phonetic" spelling of words anyway. Why don't we just make it easy on the upcoming generations and start spelling everything the way it sounds and cut out the unnecessary stuff? KWIM?
I know what you mean. When I type normal sentences on my Blackberry I get some strange messages in reply. Like "y u spel evrtng out?" IDK, I guess it's just easier 4 me!
