Well, that is a nice gesture on the part of the players.

I just thought at first that the school had been bombed or something when I saw all the lights and heard the sirens...lol.
It's great that it is possible to allow a short timed police escort in the Shoals area. The fact speaks for the crime/safety record in the Shoals. I am sure any one of the escort could have sped out of the escort and to any emergency. Yes, it would and is thrilling for the team to have the escort - for the kids to see it too!. BTW, were there any black police cars with darkened windows in the escort? LOL! Stop nit-picking, folks!
I watched them clear the intersection of Avalon and Woodward just before 5 this evening, right in the middle of rush hour, for these buses. Im all for tradition, but the way they went about this today was a bit out there. As if that intersection was not dangerous enough, the officers were not far enough ahead of the bus to clear the intersection quickly and safely, so it turned into a mess with the officer trying to jump out of his car and get the traffic moving so the buses wouldnt have to stop.

Im sure its not normally that insane, but what I witnessed at that intersection was a bit dangerous. There was so much traffic backed up from rush hour, everyone just stopped where they were thinking an ambulance would be soon to follow. The bus had to stop anyway because the traffic was completely stopped (where an ambulance would have been able to enter the oncoming lane to clear the intersection). Funny thing was, the light had turned green for the traffic that was blocking the buses, so had they just let the intersection work as designed, the buses would have gone through without stopping at all.

I think there is a time and a place for something like this, and rush hour on a friday afternoon just doesnt seem like the right time....

HAving done those escorts myself I can say that you can't plan for all things. Just have as many officers as you can and be very careful. I'm not a big fan of escorts but it does make the teams feel welcomed.

And I'm sure the championship game brings a lot of tax $$ into the entire area.
