So, there is this article about US Marshals and the local police participating in a 2 day standoff at the Motel 8 in Killen.  Everyone in the room died.  No mention of law enforcement using tear gas.  Shouldn't they have done that sometime during day one?

Good question.

I think I heard the news say LE thought at one time the woman was a hostage.  The immediate effective use of tear gas is probable.  Even when we went through boot camp's gas chamber, we would have had time to shoot someone next to us before being overcome meaning with this provocation, hostage taker would have had enough time to murder his hostage[s].

But things changed apparently.  Last I heard on the news, they're [LE] not sure if the woman was a hostage or participant.  On the live broadcast, there was mention of mutual activity.  If that turns out to be the case, I love a story with a happy ending.

Totally agree with the above!  It should have been apparent to anyone that Law Enforcement went to great pains to delay action in hopes that a different outcome could have been obtained.  Had they wanted they could have breached the door and made entry and stopped it within hours of first making contact.  I'm sure not knowing the status of the female, in the room, played a part but it's pretty safe to say LE had ears into the room and was able to tell what was going on and if things were starting to go South (so to say).

Another factor that, I believe, was stated was that there was substance abuse going on in the room during the standoff and that it wasn't a help but exacerbated the problems.  What I haven't heard is if the woman was killed by the man in the room or officers who eventually entered the room.  Either way the only one to blame for the end result is the man in the room, himself.
