I get the Courier Journal as I am sure most of you do, the one thing that I admire about it, is that it will publish almost any letter to the editor no matter how controversial. It disappoints me that the Times Daily has cut down their printing of letters to the editor to one per issue. How do you feel about it?

Although, I do find the, "You Said It" section very funny and witty. Smiler

According to a high-level friend at the TD, the reason there are so few letters is because they receive so few, and he puts the blame squarely on the "You Said It" section. No one bothers to write a reasoned argument anymore -- they just call up and spout nonsense for 30 seconds or less. It's the soundbite culture spreading to print.

It would be cool to have half a page of You Said It! Power to the people!! Smiler

Well, have you noticed that 90% of letters in the CJ are from religious wackos? I don't blame the TD from printing all that garbage.

I hate the CJ too, unorganized and the editor is the poster child for the far right.

Yeah I know, it would be nice if they would write their arguments without getting overly religious. When I write to them, I never use religion.

I love the typos the writers and/or eidtors allow to stand from the righteously frothing crowd. Why just in one letter this past week alone we got "imminent domain" as well as "marshall law."
The religious fighting is hilarious! Almost as rich as the so-called editorials we get on why George W. Bush is due an apotheosis any day now!
My sister has real estate, and evidently a lot of people use the classifieds, as she gets a load of calls whenever she has a new posting, so it does serve a purpose beyond entertainment, plus we get the Big Star and Food Land ads for those of us in the most blessed realm of Transbluewaterlandia.
I like folks who have the guts to make a stand for what is right, that is the types of letters to the editor I enjoy reading. When someone writes a letter to the editor about the crooks in the whitehouse to the crooks in city hall.

You said it is a plus to the newspaper and if I were one of the radio stations here I would have already put something on the air like you said it to let folks sound off, and play it at the top of the hour with a new sound off at each hour. I would also get a sponsor for sound off. I think times daily could get a sponsor for you said it, because everybody reads you said it. Times daily needs to print more you said its other than just one or two.

One-sided the statistics are. CBS’s 30 stations feature 74% conservative content versus 26% progressive; Clear Channel’s 145 stations are 86% conservative and only 14% progressive; Citadel (23 stations), Cumulus (31 stations) and Salem (28 stations) are all 100% conservative. Not surprisingly, several major American cities—including Dallas, Houston and Philadelphia—hear no progressive or liberal-oriented news/talk radio at all. And even in a supposedly liberal city like New York, the majority of airtime (53% to 47%) is devoted to conservative content. Georgia, Alabama, and most of the south are all conservative one-sided views.
