To whom it may concern,

Last night, I was at the computer after everyone was asleep. My teenager had been playing music on the computer earlier in the evening and had the volume a little higher than usual. I didn't know this until after I accessed the TimesDaily forum and the danged new ad for the pet board school popped up. The sound of bone hitting the trashcan scared the bejeusus outta me. About 2 seconds later, I found out my dog was underneath the computer desk instead of in her bed. I discovered this only after she barked which scared the bejesus outta me again.

Fortunately, the family either didn't hear the noise or chose to curse me under their breath.

This ad sets a terrible precedent. Please, don't play sound unless I tell you too. Good manners dictate that you insert a little "sound on" button in the ad for those who enjoy having the bejesus scared out of them.

Firefox, with the Ad Block plus add-on will cure what ails ye. If there ARE ads on the forums, I've never seen one.

That said, I overwhelmingly agree. Ads with sound are obnoxious and uncalled for, and one of the big reasons I sought out a method to block them. I actually feel bad that the sites I visit don't get ad revenue from me and my browser, but once we "progressed" beyond the annoying "Punch the monkey to win a free 90" plasma TV!!!!" ads to the insterstitals that pop up and start (literally) screaming at me, I decided I'd had enough.

Honestly, I don't mind embedded ads. They are necessary for a site to generate revenue and sometimes are even interesting. Besides, I need to know what the competition is up to. I just think auto-sounds on ads are rude.

In any case, the only things on the forum that I have found necessary to block were the humongous signatures people seem to be using with more and more regularity.

I blocked the obnoxious ad for the boarding school and shall never be, er, "hounded" by it again.
