I actually made a remark to this effect not long ago in a crowded post office after spending an obscene amount of time in line and watching the inneficency firsthand. In retrospect I probably could have had a pizza delivered and shared it with my fellow angry postal patrons as we all waited to be called.
Actually, I think the remark I made was "...And these people want to run healthcare??? A patient would die on the table before his number was called."
There is no urgency, no spirit of purpose, and absolutely no motivation. They seem to have forgotten their mission and apparently lack the leadership to turn things around. They will probably continue to be trounced by the likes of Fed-Ex and UPS. It is really sad because they have a COMPLETE monopoly by statute on delivery of first class letters and mailbox access (google Private Express Statutes).
And I also do not understand why something that will have an effect on the 99% of us who use the USPS isn't "news" either, but not much around here surprises me anymore. If they had to run as much through the meter as many of us do it would make the front page.
