I don't really know that Religion is the best place for this post for it could well be put in Miscellaneous but then when you consider Prophecy it very well could fit here also.
We just had the TV on a channel tonight that had a show that spotlighted groups of people throughout the Nation (most in Southeast) called preppers. I told my wife that it isn't these people and what they are teaching their children, training their children for that scares me but rather what scares me is that so many feel it necessary for such training and teaching and planning to occur.
Now I know for eons of years people have been claiming we are at the end times but frankly a few factual things actually should concern all of us whether or not you believe in Scriptures or Prophecy.
First we, as a Nation, have at least three times since 1960 come perilously close to Nuclear armageddon so to say and we actually only knew and were actively participating in one of the three. Of the three I actually have only read about two of the events. One being the Cuban Missile crisis whereby many think we were closer than we have ever been and maybe they are or were right.
Second and Third was events that we (the United States) knew very little about until afterwards. In once case we and NATO were participating in Able Archer a Nuclear drill to practice all out Nuclear attack on NATO from the USSR. Problem was that to the USSR everything pointed to a real preemptive attack by the United States and this happened right after the USSR shot down the Passenger plane with one of our Senators on it which they (USSR) saw as potential justification for Reagan whom they thought was just the man that would pull a preemptive trigger. The event, no one could control, that actually set the Russians toward pushing their own buttons launching an all fire at once attack on our nation was an actual LAUNCH event detection at one of their monitoring stations. Not one but at least three Launch Attack warnings was issued by USSR satellites that were in the air to identify and issue warning of a launch against the USSR. What the satellite actually saw though was interaction between clouds and the Sun over the American continent. For a very short time the only reason that a total launch wasn't done by the USSR was ONE single commander whose responsibility it was to certify that the launch was real and he only used his reasoning that IF the US was to launch that it would be a much larger number of diverse launches against Russia and not just one group of states.
Although this man was correct that was his last working day in the USSR Military because although he was correct he paused and wasn't willing to launch and go with what he was told by their own equipment. The last event was a detection of an actual launch, by a Soviet monitoring station except the launch was a weather satellite and in that case Russia wasn't notified and although that's the one I know least about I did hear of it happening so it's POSSIBLE for something to happen even in the best of times and often it's just plain luck that we all live through it.
Problem is today, unlike years before, the chance of a Nuclear strike on our nation, I believe, is far greater than ever before because before when only a few nations had the bomb and ability the greatest deterrent was knowledge, by those with the bomb, that it was un-winnable and most likely unsustainable for anyone so the end of life for everyone and mutual destruction was a potent deterrent. Today though you have much smaller, radical, states who aren't worried or concerned about mutual destruction but feel that, believe that, they have God on their side and by issuing an attack that they (whoever starts it) could actually bring about God coming back to Earth. When you put a Nuclear weapon, two or three, etc, in the hands of people with a mentality as those who blow themselves up then it makes it a much more probable reality that it is likely to happen.
So prepping aside I hope if and/or when it ever happens that I'm long gone and not able to see it or that I don't survive the initial actions for what and whoever is left to contend with what's left will see far worse than has ever happened before. Still think Revelation is a totally piece of false work? The 6th Chapter of Revelation, I believe, describes events that will happen account of mankind and what we do to ourselves and for those that read what it has to say it's very sobering to think about.
