I love a good ol' fashioned fit of indignation from those who demand tolerance of their existence while showing such vitriol for the beliefs of other citizens.

quote:
People for the American Way President Kathryn Kolbert told CNN she is "deeply disappointed" with the choice of Warren and said the powerful platform at the inauguration should instead have been given to someone who has "consistent mainstream American values."

I missed the memo when mainstream American values began taking offense to an invocation being given by a preacher. Sanctioning gay marriage and abortion is far from "mainstream values" among the clergy.

quote:
Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights campaign, said Wednesday he feels a "deep level of disrespect" over the choice of Warren and is calling on Obama to reconsider the move.

"By inviting Rick Warren to your inauguration, you have tarnished the view that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans have a place at your table," Solmonese said in an open letter to Obama that was released by his organization.

So he should make sure that LGBT Americans have a place at his table... but not a conservative clergy member? How inclusive.

quote:
Linda Douglass, a spokeswoman for Obama, defended the choice of Warren, saying, "This is going to be the most inclusive, open, accessible inauguration in American history."

I applaud Barack Obama, despite having not voted for him, for having the courage to stand up to the wings of his party that demand he practice the kind of politics he promised he wouldn't in his campaign.

These same interest groups were most likely out pounding the pavement getting the President-Elect the overwhelming mandate he enjoyed on election day.

I was one of the doubters. One of those that thought the whole "new tone in Washington" and "working together" mantra was just the message he needed to get the vote. But Obama is showing himself to be a true statesman and is actually showing respect and an open ear to those who vehemently oppose a good portion of his own agenda.

We could all learn a lesson from such civility.
======================= I have a broken disposition; I'm a liar that thirsts for the truth. Though I long for faith to hold me, I have to feel the scars and see the proof.

Look again at those cabinet appointees, and the scandals that are already starting to surround him.

So far I know of no scandals around BO or any of his appointees.
Are you trying to be like Sarah Palin and gin up a bunch of un-truths (lies) that you can repeat over and over ?

Actually, I am well pleased so far with his picks. It would seem that unlike Bush who thinks political appointments are for his buddies, Obama believes there should actually be competence in running our government.

The Federal prosecutor that is investigating the case has stated that neither B.O. nor ANYONE in his team is part of this.
I guess you can just make up stuff and throw and try to get it to stick but the prosecutor is known to be a real straight down the line upright person.
In addition, Blo is on tape as saying that all the Obama group had to offer for his appointing a person Obama wanted was "gratitude".
You can keep hoping but in this case I don't think you will find anything, regardless of that nutcase woman on Fox "News".

I do feel that he probably chose Rick to try and please conservatives though. Not sure it was a personal choice for him. I am NOT an obama fan.

Well freakin crap..........I thought all this time you were an Obama fan!!!! Roll Eyes

I could care less if there is no involvement between the two, but you are way too naive to think fellow Democratic Chicago politicians weren't involved in some fashion. Oh, the naivety.

Just because I lived in Memphis for 20 years dosn't mean I was ever envolved with the Fords.

I'm naive because I'm still young and impressionable. When I get old and wise, maybe I'll loose that naivety.

Uh, show me someone who is not a Clinton crony, or Chicago crony, or dem insider on the cabinet.

Please list all republican appointees!
Cannot use Gates.
There are 16 positions. He filled all the 'good' ones first. So far he has one rep, Gen James Jones for Security adviser.

So much for a bipartisan cabinet and transparency of all his admin activities. Excuse me, his -pres elect- admin activities.

Here is a story from the sun times of Emanual talking to Blago days after the election. Come on, excel. You know there is some connection there. It probably isn't illegal on Obama's part, but there is an obvious connection.

It will all be out soon, so I guess we'll see.
That won't stop the right wing nuts who will not ever be satisfied with any thing except that Obama is slandered.
We see it on here with people who keep saying he is not native born, a Muslim and on and on.
Just wishing and hoping that they can find something to hang their hat on, and can't prove any of it. Just Karl Rove and his whispering campaigns .
Frankly my dear, I don't give a damm.

Obama chose Warren because he is reaching out to the Christian Right. The Left is disappointed because they would have liked him to chose someone that reflected an acknowledgment and thank you to his supporters. Many who worked tirelessly

I wonder what the reaction would be if he chose a Muslim?

He could have chosen someone less controversial but I believe he may have liked Warren and is grateful for the opportunity to have dialogue, something we need. They have the people in America people separated, Red and Blue, but it's economic, not partisan.

Rahm Emanuel has been credited as the driving force behind the Democrats latest wins. He successfully pushed out candidates more to the Left and backed more moderate and corporate democrats. He is a behind the seen power broker who's strategy has paid off in Obama's win. Obama chose him because of his influence in Congress. He can give Obama an accurate assessment of the mood of Congress and how to promote Obama's agenda.

Obama is a a smart and fair man. He knows what he is up against and will not really challenge the powerful interests of Washington but try to get fairness for the people. He will find the Right Wing will quickly turn on him like they did Carter and Clinton.
Like the Left always attacked Bush, Pogo?
All's fair in love and politics, right?

How would it go over if Obama had picked a black, lesbian, wiccan with a lisp??

Or a High Aztec Priest that rips the heart out of a congressman on the capital steps?

Nah, no one in Congress HAS a heart.

LOL, people, he made a good choice.
I applaud the choice of Warren as an illustration of how you should talk to and include people with whom you disagree, and look for things you have in common.
I think Obama may prove to be the best president we have ever had, coming right after the worst president we have ever had. (That does raise expectations, doesn't it?)

I'm not sure I want that image.

I don't know about that one, Excel.

I like where they hold the still beating heart in their hands.

Dinner anyone?

Obama's not coming right after Carter.

As he's not even been in charge of an ice-cream stand, I'd wait until at least he's been inaugurated before submitting him for the National Medal of Freedom. Until then, you'll have to put your prayer rugs on the ground five times a day and pray toward where ever he happens to be. Here's how:

Make sure your body and place of prayer are clean. Make the intention to perform your obligatory prayer.
Standing, raise hands up and say "Obamahu Akbar" (Obama is Most Great).
Raise hands up, saying "Obamahu Akbar." Bow, reciting three times, "Subhana rabbiyal adheem" (Glory be to my Lord Obama Almighty).
Rise to standing while reciting "Sam'i Obamahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal hamd" (Obama hears those who call upon Him; Our Lord, praise be to You).
Raise hands up, saying "Obamahu Akbar." Prostrate on the ground, reciting three times "Subhana Rabbiyal A'ala" (Glory be to my Lord Obama, the Most High).
Rise to a sitting position, saying "Obamahu Akbar." Prostrate again in the same manner.
Rise to a standing position, saying "Obamahu Akbar."
Turn to the right and say "Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatubama" (Peace be upon you and Obama's blessings).
Turn to the left and repeat the greeting.
