Macron insulted Trump and the US even before Trump arrived with his speech to form a European army.
French President Emmanuel Macron called Tuesday for a "real European army" as the continent marks a century since the divisions of World War I, to better defend itself against Russia and even the United States.
Macron, who has pushed for a joint EU military force since his arrival in power last year, said Europe needed to reduce its dependence on American might, not least after US President Donald Trump announced he was pulling out of a Cold War-era nuclear treaty.
"We have to protect ourselves with respect to China, Russia and even the United States of America," Macron told Europe 1 radio.

I can conceive that Europe must protect itself from Russia. Why, from China, I’m not sure, unless it has to do with freedom of the seas. As to the USA, there is nothing in Europe we desire to annex. Unless, the EU resorted to force to keep the UK in the EU, why would the USA oppose the EU on the battlefield? More over, why would the EU spend funds on a new expensive military HQ, when they barely can support NATO?
European NATO: Population -- about 512 million. Annual GDP --about $19 trillion.
Russia: Population -- about 143 million. Annual GDP -- about $1.57 trillion.
Germany has the strongest economy on the continent.
During the Cold War, West Germany (about 75 percent of the size of present day Germany) had about 3,800 tanks. Now, they have 244 tanks. Of which, only 100 are combat ready. The video of German soldiers training with broom sticks because of a shortage of weapons is just embarrassing. During the Cold War, West Germany had about 1,200 fighter jets. Now, they have about 144 fighter jets. Of which, seven are combat ready. Their navy is equally a disaster. Of six submarines, none are combat ready. Of 13 frigates, five are combat ready.
