Re: Preventing texting whiel driving

One of my greatest fears is when my younguns start driving and attempt to text while driving. I have done that once or twice and have scared the pee outta myself as many times. It is a stupid thing to do but the temptation is great. The thought if my kids doing that is . . . <shiver>

I've told my kids that when they start driving, they can simply kiss texting goodbye . . . unless a technological answer revels itself.

So, how does one stop a new driver from texting while driving? Anyone in the know on this kinda stuff?

I text some but kids do it ALL the time. Why is this? I've dubbed my child 'Fingers of Fire.' But I'll tell you how to prevent it. Buy your child a stick shift. That way, both hands and both feet stay too busy to text.

block text messages on their phone. I think at&t has a service that allows you to limit them too.

You can block it on Verizon also. I just had mine unblocked about a month ago and have my mom on my bill and still have it blocked on hers because I don't want the grandkids texting her when she doesn't know how to even pull it up and read it or reply back. LOL!

Sounds like we have the same mom!!!! My mom can't / won't text, either. So I found it odd when I kept getting these weird charges for "data" on my mom's phone. I finally called AT&T to see what the heck it was. Imagine my shock when the CSR said it was ringtones. WHAT?? Seems my nephew was downloading cool ringtones to his grandma's cell phone and then transmitting them via Bluetooth to his. Kids are sneaky.

LOL, Kids are sneaky. Everytime my nephew is here which is often and using my computer... he now says it before I do...I know no downloading. I've drilled it into him so much.

As for my mom, we do good to learn how to use the phone when we upgrade...we're not even going to texting.

Find a local auction of wrecked cars. Take your kids there and walk around the wrecks.

You won't even have to speak it; their imaginations will pose the questions. How did all these cars get this way? How many people died or were hurt in these wrecks?

On the way home, have a little chat about distracted driving.

Harsh, but necessary.

Do you have kids, Deep??
If you do, you should know kids won't pay attention to that...they think it will never happen to THEM.
When their own car is actually destroyed in an accident...(and if they survive) MAYBE they will figure it out...and that's just a maybe.

Easiest way I know of is not to allow them to have that option on their phones. Kids are just NOT responsible enough to drive, talk on phone and/or text, they just don't think anything BAD can or will happen to them.

I wouldn't allow a teen to have texting options, it is just too dangerous.

The stats on this were presented on Dr. Phil yesterday. While texting a person is impaired 92%. That is far greater than driving while under the influence.
