Budsfarm, have you ever read the Bill Bryson "A Walk In the Woods". If you haven't you've got to read it, about a trip down the Appalachian trail by somebody like the rest of us.

And if you other guys haven't read this. Go now to Books a Million. Buy it now. Read it now. (Or cheat and sit in the store and read it.)

Thanks for the tip, Vick. On your suggestion, I read the reviews on Amazon.

Till now, my reading of the AT consisted of technical books and trail guides. I could recite Campmor’s catalog. I could draw from memory the elevations of every side trail between I-40 and Fontana. As the wife of one of my partners observed, we weren’t planning a trip, we were planning an attack.

But now I think as I reflect back on my worn out Calcutta cane hiking stick, I would enjoy Bryson’s book more for the memories and less for the sore muscles.

I’ll have to spring for it as there aren’t any BAM’s around here tween the cotton and the cows. Sounds like a good read this winter sitting at the fire. Hard to imagine now though.

BTW, I was in my mid 40s when I took my first step up Clingman’s Dome from Newfound Gap. My illusions of being in good shape evaporated within the first 5 miles. By Thunderhead, there was little left to evaporate.

I lived in Cherokee until 1983, when to moved to Muscle Shoals. I like to listen to music, watch movies, cook. I also like football (Roll Tide) and baseball. I like reading the forums.
Not much of a social life, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Bless your heart. I mean that with admiration and respect as a compliment for what you and others have and are dealing with as is my daughter.

All except the “Roll Tide” part.

I feel sure a lot of folks are going to bless you in spite of my omission. That's what forums are for.

One of the inevitable maladies of getting older is acquiring CRS.

But one of the benefits is enjoying doing the same thing over and over believing each time it’s the first time I’ve done it.

Vick, in going through my backpacking library this morning, I found your book. Turns out, I got it in 1999 as my AT days were coming to a close.

Now I’m going to enjoy reading it again for the first time.

Thanks.

I highly suggest you go ahead and buy it, or any of his books, really (esp. "I'm a Stranger Here, Myself"). Bill Bryson- always a good read.
I'm 53, look lost younger I've been told cause I have a round face that puffs out the wrinkles. I'm 5-4" and would love to lose about 15 pounds. Used to have big old hooters but when gravity started tugging I had those babies perked up. They look good too. I have blue eyes, and brown chopped up mutilated hair right now.

So, there....
OMG! we look alike! maybe that's why your husband said i could be his dreamgirl?

seriously, except for the fact that you're a tad older and a bit taller...and my hair is longer and blonde and my eyes aren't blue, they're teal and my face is more angular and i had my double D's reduced instead of perked up...we could be twins!
