Can someone please explain to me why a hard working officer does not recieve a promotion within the department and another officer that has gotten less experience, less arrest, less time on the force, but more time kissing butt gets promoted? I am truly starting to believe that to get any where in this world you have to kiss up... Well my lips are not ever going to be attached to anyone's butt and neither is my hard working husband..who actually truly deserves more...Great Job to all LEO's that work hard to protect our communities and that deserve the promotions and I feel sorry for the ones that kiss up and do not have any idea how to be a dedicated LEO's....

Welcome to the forums. And to the real world. Saw lots of people promoted ahead of me in my time in the workforce that did less work or kissed butt. Also saw less experienced or qualified people promoted to fill 'quotas' that supposedly dont exist. I have worked in numerous fields, its not limited to law enforcement.

This is the point where I tell you that your husband (and you) have to let that go, move on and look to the next position. Someone will notice the hard work eventually. At the same time, if your husband was to develop an 'attitude' about it, they will notice that even quicker. I call that a 'career limiting move.'

Good luck!

I'm not sure where your husband works but it isn't always about the things it should be. I've seen promotions that really made sense and I've seen some that did not. With that said I disagree with the arrest comment. I'm sure your husband can tell you that the ability to make an arrest does not mean the ability to supervise and develop the officers beneath you. More experience however is important though if ones time on the job is spent wisely. I speak from experience as I am an officer in this area. Tell him to keep trying because determination does not go unnoticed. If he is as good as you believe him to be then he would be an asset. Welcome to the board and thanks for the kind words. We are technically family I suppose.
I can explain this one, the old Walnut tree told the little Walnut tree,"I have been though a lot of cold winters, a lot of hot summers, shed a lot of leaves, lost a few limbs here and there, seen it all, been though a lot of storms, but my roots run deep, someday I might fall, but not like you, as little as you are, your young and when you fall there is a little noise, when I fall, I shake the ground, but I still remember I was once a little tree to".

Kinda like the old bull told the young bull, "Young bull papa, let's run down there and get one of them cow's" " Papa bull said nope, let's walk down there and get the all."

You get it, lol
OfficersWife,

You did not mention the dept but I know it is Sheffield PD. Dept morale went up after Doug retired, now it is lower. Younger officers are being allowed to pick shifts over more experienced and senior officers. This promotion is going to take affect Monday. The officer being promoted was terminated from a state job for not having the proper accredited degree which the job required. A new chief and the same old Sheffield PD. I spoke with an officer and I asked the question, which Chief is better, Doug or Greg Ray. He stated things were better under Doug because he was fair about promotions and shift assignments. That statement is shocking and I hope the good officers at Sheffield hang in there until a new chief takes over.
When Chief Ray first started, I was ecstatic. I am no fan of Ay****. FINALLY a Chief that had his officers actually patrolling and working traffic was at the helm. The first couple of weeks actually had SPD working traffic and writing speeding tickets. That elation was short-lived. Apparently, Chief Ray's actions of having his officers work radar on Hatch Blvd. went over with certain Sheffield denizens like the proverbial 'turd in a punch bowl'. Working radar on Hatch Blvd. suddenly ceased. Why? Either you're a law ENFORCEMENT officer...or you're not.
