yes, thanks, skyryder for the post.

a couple of years ago, i told the principal at lexington that their handling of the flag during the playing of the national anthem before football games was incorrect. the flag was being raised slowly, timed to reach the top of the pole as the last few notes of the the anthem were played.

i finally caught the principal one night and told him that the flag was supposed to be run up quickly, 'as if in triumph', i think is the recommendation i had read. the principal sort of scoffed at me and told me he'd have to research it, that he had never heard that.

to his credit, at the next ballgame, the flag ran straight up the pole and he came and found me and apologized for scoffing.

we must treat our flag with deference and respect. too many people have fought and died to defend it to allow anything else. ditto for being quiet and respectful during the playing of the national anthem. i'm glad you posted this link, so everyone will remember there are rules that must be followed if you are to treat old glory respectfully.
