As I understand it their research leads them to believe the increased sales of Bologna, Viennas, Beanee Weenee and of course Premium Saltines to deer hunters in the winter months will tide them over till the crappie start biting and the turkey start struting in the spring........This seemed to be the main reasoning behind Waterloo not to mention the influx of laborers working on the four laning of Waterloo Road
Could also be the close relation to the Trace and the large amount of traffic that will bring into Waterloo. Man, I never thought they would get around to building something like that out there. I will be a fer piece to travel, but if they will carry the sardines packed in hot pepper sauce, I will make the trip.
FLO50, the only one who seems to know for sure that Publix has signed documents and committed to build and also knows the location has indicated that one of my guesses (on the second page of this topic thread), as to the actual location, was very close.

pooh's dad also is correct in mentioning that Publix wants to be near the center of action. No big company is going to take a gamble on someplace like Waterloo or Cherokee when there is there is a location like Cox Creek Parkway and Darby Drive available and somewhere very close to that is where it's indicated that Publix will locate, if they are coming to this area.

Every, modern, Publix that I have seen constructed, from ground up, includes (like in Athen's) several supporting store units that they can lease out or sell to help support their cost of their main building as well as provide other businesses to help draw shoppers to their location.

As for Publix, and their employees, officially announcing that Florence or the Shoals will be a location of a future store goes. They will do as most all companies do and not make it official until most anyone can see the store being constructed and often times the don't make any official recognition of the fact until the store is built and open for business.

Whether or not you like Publix everyone should be happy to have a Publix locate here (or any major grocery chain). For one it's additional jobs for the area. For another thing Publix, being the quality store that they are, will make every other store, in this area, improve their service in order to attempt to keep the customers that they have from leaving.
If someone really wants to know and has the time they can go to the city hall and check the various offices that would be invovled, such as building permits and so on. You can also go to the courthouse and check land records. All of these are public records so the city/county personnel have to tell you the truth and cannot say it is pending or personal information.

Did I hear you correctly? They are planning on four laning the road all the way down to Waterloo? or jump to the Bumpass Creek Publix site? I have some land down that way aalong the road, I might be fixing to come into some money.... Woo Hoo!!!!
Do you know if they plan on hiring any folks from up this way? My kids need a job.
Will they be able to sell wine down there? I know they have a fairly good selection of wine but I thought Waterloo was dry, so won't they have to have a voter referendum in order to be able to sell the liquors down there? Maybe we can bring in the bootleggers. I do know with all this talk about the new Publix down there, I heard a maintenance man here at work say he had heard they may start running a ferry boat out of McFarland down that way two or three times a day. Supposedly there was some monies out of the Obama Stimulus plan that could be used for such a project. That would be neat, since you could take your kids on a really cheap ferry ride and see the sites down that way. Things are definitely looking up as far as I am concerned.

That and don't start crap rumors like the ones that started with Target before the store even opened. That was annoying seeing post and hearing rumors that any bump in the road that occurred was proof that they were going to soon close. Heck, I'll go as far as to say that Wal-Mart could have started some of them.
