Geddon, check with your vet. I think you might can get male cats neutered before you can have a female spayed. You certainly want to get this done before he starts to spray. Call around. Some vets offer discounts if you tell them you found the cat.
Around 6 months of age is the general recommendation. I think it depends on the cat as to whether or not he will spray. I had one that did even though he was neutered but I think that is usually rare.
We have 4 cats 2 outside 2 inside. Call Smith Vet Clinic across from Animal Control in Florence. They have always been fantastic with us and the critters. They also do monkies
I think all unfixed males will spary some just to mark territory. It would be if you were taking care of kitten or if they were jealous of a baby, etc.
They might spray some if they're fixed, but there's not as much odor.
We had one done at about 4 months, I think, but the vet wasn't absolutely sure of his age. If you wait until they fully develope, their skin gets tougher and stays that way forever. Its hard to give shots.
I took Kato at around 4 months & it was too early. I think the vet must have thought that since I got him from the shelter, he might be older than I thought, which is true I guess. Anyhoo, it was a no-go because his testes had not yet dropped (didn't even know that happened - duh). He said to give it a month and we'll see. Sorry, guys, to be so graphic, but that's what the vet said.
I had my cat neutered at 6 mos. and he was fine until we moved to another city and we had tomcats coming up on our deck and spraying, it inspired ours to spray, also. We had a kitty door and the tom came inside and sprayed IN my house. There is NOTHING that will completely remove cat spray odor on furniture that I have found anyway. I had a wooden china cabinet that he sprayed and every time the sun came in the french door you could smell it. I had to shut off the kitty door which my cats didn't appreciate, but, too bad. Anyhow, that's my experience. My girls have never sprayed.
I have had cats my whole life and also until recently have raised Siamese. The ones I have had fixed I had done at 6 months until recently and I kept one of the kittens off my last litter for a pet. Colbert Animal Clinic neutered him at 4 months. They did great. Also were cheaper than most. They are members of Paws also for those of you who are aware of Paws. As far as spraying I have never had a problem with a male thats fixed except once and he had already started spraying before being fixed. So I think if you get it done before he starts you should be ok.
