Has the race card not been used enough?

Obama speaks of 'overcoming adversity' while speaking at a "historically BLACK school".

She should be looking to the future, not looking backwards. She should be teaching black men to be fathers, not pant dragging thugs.

She should be teaching black girls to respect their bodies and not become mothers when they are still children themselves.

The inner city black culture is your main enemy, not the white man.

Please don't revert this country to a third world status with your racist, hating ways.

What was the racist part? Why did you place historically BLACK school in quotes? Why place black in caps?
I'll take a stab at that. He is saying the black culture is it's own worse enemy - not his enemy.

The culture values the wrong things. In that video of the little girl cussing I posted the other day you see a 4 or 5 year old (if that) saying she rides on MFing 40s (rims). If kids were raised with a value for education as opposed to the street culture no doubt they would have a better shot at a future.

No serious person is ever going to give you a shot if you use expression like who dat is?, where he go?, or he my baby daddy. I don't make you sound stupid - you do.

The black community has many solid citizens, but is cursed with a substantial underclass that places little or no value on education, common courtesy, lawful behavior, or mutual respect (although many of them are quick to characterize any criticism of their distorted world view as "dissin'" or disrespect). Trouble is, that element does not even respect themselves. They are a drag on the many black citizens who work hard, behave themselves, and are a credit to their communities.

Why do you consider it 'taboo' to speak of blacks?

The racist part? Lets see, The first lady should represent ALL Americans, not just the black ones.

Taboo??? I simply asked a question that have failed to answer.

Again where is the racism?

How is she representing only black Americans? To me, most of her adult life (18 and up) has been surrounded by mostly white Americans.
I did not vote for Obama. He just was not my choice. However, my post bear out that I pledged to support the Elected President just like I thought you should. Having said that, Now the picture has changed. His appointees are a mixed bag of misfits and tax dodgers and under achieving people. They include Barney, Sen Dodd, Pelosi, Reid and several others. I don't respect none of them including the President or the idiot missing from the village
Joe B. I had hoped for better, it did not happen. Now we wait for something different. Please don't assume that because I don't support him means I am a racist. I am an American, parent, Grandparent, Voter and Honest Citizen. Let me know when someone measures up and can handle the job. Thank you

This isn't just a problem with young Blacks. The white young community is as much an embarrassment to me for the same reasons. Nobody speaks properly anymore, everybody is "hooking up", boys show no respect for girls and the girls don't seem to mind being treated like crap. The young people today are sloppy, lazy, and don't care about anything beyond what's going on this weekend. Wow. I can't believe I'm hearing myself say these things. When did I get old?

The statistics prove you wrong on your assessment.

PWS...why are you begging someone to not think you are racist?
WH,
Probably, because anytime anyone speaks of anything regarding race, people have been indoctrinated into making snap judgments about the speaker's attitudes toward those of a different color. No one, regardless of color, is given credit for being able to speak objectively about race. I think we all need to aspire to assess individuals, not groups, regarding actions. I hope this doesn't sound like a sociology class, but, to me, the topic that started this thread is really about a culture and not a color. There are really a lot of intelligent, pleasant, and socially-adept folks out there, who happen to be a different color than most. We will only continue to advance as a country when we are able to judge the heart and soul, and not the pigmentation of the skin.

I'm assuming he did so to point out the racial aspect of a school being for blacks only. You can't have a school for just white people. White segregation is bad but it's okay for blacks?
Why do people think the school is only for blacks?

Obviously some don't know what Historically Black College or University (HBCU) means. It does not mean only blacks can attend there. Historically blacks have been the major recipients of education there.

White people and other races attend HBUC's. In fact West Virginia State University and Bluefield State College, both HBCU's have a majority white student population.

So if anyone wants to blame anyone for the existence of HBCU's they need to blame the southern leaders of the past.

Again it was a HBCU that was the first integrated college/university in Alabama.

I stand by what I said, I am not begging any person of any origin to believe anything any different. If I was a racist you would have known it quickly. I have worked with, lived with, worked for and been associated with several groups (Races for you dummies) all of my life and I have no bias toward any. You are very small in mind to even read that into what I stated. Have a Great Day!

Seems like an inspirational speech of encouragement to continue working and studying to become a positive contributor to the world today. She spoke to all graduates. They were just graduates who had worked and studied hard to achieve a degree. Were there segments of her speech omitted?

In speaking in terms of 'you' I heard no primary colors mentioned but a collective 'you' meaning all graduates.

My post is regarding the First Lady's address at a graduation ceremony.

The President is not the subject. Liking or approving the current President's politics/policy/cabinet issues was never on the agenda at graduation. Why bring up the speech at all? Whether you are adressing approval or disapproval of a person, a race, a club, organization, whatever ~ it should have been posted under an appropriate topic.

WH, where do you see the address as a subversive attempt to 'revert this country to
a third world status'? I can take up inner city issues, baggy britches, fatherless children elsewhere. The link you posted was regarding college graduation. ??????

kkelly--never underestimate the propensity of terminally right wing dingbats to find something to beetch about in anything--and I mean ANYTHING--Barack Obama or Michele Obama say or do.
