Recruiters struggle to find an Army

McDonalds is having a hard time finding employees, too, and is offering $7.00 to $9.00 an hour to get workers. Police are having to offer hiring bonuses for the first time in American history. Other employers are making alowances for employees to work around college classes. Unemployment is less than 5 percent. Everybody has a job.

So that the Army is having a harder time recruiting should not be news.

So, What do we need to do to help our recruiting? Don't forget that Army Desertion Rate is Up 80%. Since '03. Do you think a draft would help?

Nope, the draft is not the answer for today's issue. Just like corporate jobs, the Army is going to have to offer more lucrative incentives for joining.

BTW, anytime there is an active war, the desertion rate goes up. If you had ten this year, and eighteen next, you could say the rate was up 80%.

Also, why don't you mention that the Marine Corps desertion rate is unchanged and that the Navy's desertion rate has dropped by about 60%?

I want to know what the recruiters are doing. I've sent them two e-mails in the past month trying to get some information and I haven't gotten a single call or visit. I'm ashamed that I decided against the military because I know it will be a source of honor and pride in my later years, and an inspiration to my family. I'd love to tell a recruiter that story, but if they are struggling to find recruits, I don't think they should wait for someone to walk in their door. I want to feel like they are proactive about wanting me.

Kudos to you for your desire to join our military. If you are serious about joining, give the local branch a call. Emails are very informal and you would be better off speaking with a recruiter to get your questions answered. Just remember, even if you spend 10 hours talking, until you sign the papers you aren't obligated (oral commitments don't count).

Why didn't you call them on the phone. I know a young man who called them, talked about it and then decided (for personal reasons) not to enlist at that time. Since then, they call him at least 3-4 times a month!!!

I think if you make a phone call, you would be in very quickly

Please have a parent or a vet review the papers before you sign. Recruiters are usually good people, but only the written contract is valid.

Certainly there are people who don't want to join the military. And that's their choice. Same as the ones who want to join do so of their own free choice. Lots of people used to join the military because of poor economic situations at home. With the jobless rate at under 4.7 percent nationally, and 3.1 percent in Alabama, jobs are not hard to find, so all employers, including the military, are having to work harder to recruit employees.

You, and nobody else either, has any proof that President Bush has profited in any way from Iraq. If you or they did, we wouldn't be having this discussion...Bush would have been impeached and convicted long ago. So to continually claim Bush is a war profiteer is asinine.

I have stated many times I would pick up a rifle and stand a watch with any of our servicemen. I still stand by that statement.

The military wants men who go after what they want...they have the determination to reach that goal whatever it is...I just don't believe you have it...maybe join the peace core or habitat for humanity, salvation army...that is more your life style...

They will tuck you in bed at night....the military...naw! they want men who don't need tucking in bed...they stand guard so the citizens of this US of A can sleep in peace...

If I was a recuiter...I would cull you butt before you got have the application filled out...you'd be a waste of money and time...

So! I can pick em when I see..em...I see young men come through like Rowan...they usually ask for a early out...can't take the heat or structure...need to be a band director or maybe someone of your profession...he would fit right in...

Prove your statement that we have illegals in military forces. Illegals are not allowed to join the US Military.

Prove that any one segment of the population is absent from the military...show me any documentation that no Republicans are in the military...or democrats....or independents...

What makes you think that my "little rich kids" are not are not already there? Show me some documentation that only people with income of less than a quarter mil a year get inducted into the military. Where is the news story that shows military iduction papers saying you won't be accepted by the Army if your daddy drives a Mercedes? Please send them directly to the Times Daily, so they can be published in the regular paper, because we all know that they will receive a Pulitzer for that story.

PBA is right in that I was wrong to degrade his point of view...I was wrong to also degrade his time in the military...he has done his part to serve this nation...and has earned the right to express his views...
I also told him this in a private PM...PBA has been a constant contributor to this blog, whether we believe what he post or not...and as he stated, he does not always believe...

Well it has not been many times that you have caught me in the wrong. Yes, I have been wrong, Not many times, Talking about topics I have posted. Not too many on arguments. So you do have your purpose? Yes, Don't you wish everybody did? I have to make sure I research before I say anything so I actually benefit from calling you out most times. I am glad you research!! I wish everybody would do this and learn to think for themselves rather than the spin doctors on radio and tv. doing their thinking for them.
