"The Grand Old Party is more religious cult than political organization."

1991-1993: Religious Right Takes "Working Control" of the Republican Party -- Precinct by Precinct, State by State
Journalists attended Christian Coalition and Republican Party events in the early nineties documenting the tactics of the newly formed organization. Reports appeared in newspapers around the country detailing the take over of local Republican Party committees, and efforts by moderate Republicans to form competing entities. Following are some of those articles.
"WITH GOD AS THEIR CO-PILOT" by Joe Conason, Playboy, March, 1993
The rich Republicans of San Antonio's Bexar County consider themselves very conservative. And they are. But the politics of this new crowd gave them a bad scare. Not long after the Christian rightists staged their coup, the president of the Alamo City Republican Women's club just gave up and quit.
"The so-called Christian activists have finally gained control," she explained in her resignation letter, "and the Grand Old Party is more religious cult than political organization.
Next came the Pennsylvania primary ... the shock came the next day, when the votes for obscure Republican state committee positions were tallied. From nowhere, conservative Christians had grabbed dozens of seats. The militant newcomers are now close to controlling the Republican Party in Pennsylvania, too.

''Nothing wrong with Christians''

True, I agree that there is nothing wrong with true Christians. But I also believe that you don't mix religion and politics. True Christians should be out trying to save souls instead of out running campaigns. The republican party used God as a wedge for political purposes only. It's like putting the screws to your best friend when you use him or her for your own personal gain. Can you imagine how God feels? For his children to use him for political gain and not the right purposes?
Until one of the parties decides to move back to what our Founding Fathers had in mind when they started this "Grand Experiment", we will see no improvement in our situation. I think the Republicans have a shorter distance to travel, but they have a considerable way to go. They have completely "lost the bubble" on spending. Independents will have to decide to reclaim this Republic's destiny, or it won't happen.
''christianity doesn't require taking money by force to support those who won't support themselves.''

zippadeedoodah, There's a difference in Christianity and religion. Religion keeps people dumb and stupid. True Christians very seldom get involved in politics and most of them do not even care enough for politics to be able to tell you what party is which and what they represent. The true Christians interest is for God's work, not politicians work.

Religions are keeping their people dumb and stupid and keep them voting against themselves. The republicans use the two favorite sins of all time, homosexuality and abortion, as if they were the only sins that exist. There's more sins than the two sins that the republican party chooses to use to gain political control. And the republican party has done nothing against abortion or homosexuality because gays were getting married under the republican control and abortion still existed under republican control. You use the words socialism and communism and have no idea what each means. 100% capitalism is for the rich and does not benefit the middle class or the poor. You don't want 100% socialism because it benefits the poor and the middle class and hurts the rich. So you want a tablespoon of each so that it will be balanced for all American people.

I think you may have forgotten that everyone gets exactly one vote..Christians, Atheists, Bhuddists, Muslim. Oh unless you boarded a bus ..went to Ohio and voted for Obama in the 10 days before the election.(apparently you have 10 days before the election to vote in OH.) But everyone else has one vote. And we can vote for the candidate that believes the same as we do OR has the best hair style if we want to. It is a free country.
BTW I did hear of one of our local church groups who did this. May be rumor, but I heard it from a pretty good source.

savinforarainyday, Not sure what your point is, but I agree, it is a free country. I'm not sure how free it is, but free enough that most people are not too worried about their freedom at this point. Let me give you an example of what some people in Alabama have not noticed. Like your radio stations for instance. Did you know that the radio market is dominated by conservative talk radio in Alabama and that you don't get to hear the other side or opinion? That's one of the freedoms that people have lost against corporations and does not seem to be a concern to Alabamians. But when you have religion that keeps you dumb and stupid and think like they think, then one can understand why.

That statement makes me think of the movie "Ruthless People." The police officer looks at one of the criminals and says he may be the stupidest man on the face of the earth. Wrong! He's right here insulting everyone who believes in what made this country great instead of what is tearing this country down. Congrats "red"dog!
Old yellah: “The Grand Old Party is more religious cult than political organization."

Nevertheless, the GOP isn’t trying to kill you !

BNW: “The republicans made fools of that same bunch of "christians" much like they are now making fools of the teabaggers. As if the teabaggers really needed any help.”

BNW actually disagrees with old yellah, but can help throwing in his 12-year old scatological references. Too bad he never matured beyond that limit.

Old yellah: “Religions are keeping their people dumb and stupid and keep them voting against themselves.”

As opposed to liberal educrats who took one of the finest systems, dumbed it down, this ensuring the poor can’t improve their lot.

Old yellah: “100% capitalism is for the rich and does not benefit the middle class or the poor. You don't want 100% socialism because it benefits the poor and the middle class and hurts the rich.”

Capitalism creases wealth where little existed before. Without it, there is only the smallest of middle classes, an even smaller rich caste and many, many poor.

Socialism creates little wealth. True utopian socialist societies bare created less wealth in a generation than the serfs under manoralism.
Yeah, Democrats will not 'cross' that line, they would never pander to Christians or even campaign in a church, they strictly adhere to the notion of separation of church and state-

And 2 "reverends", such as a Jesse Jackson or an Al Sharpton, would never be presidential candidates or in any way be affiliated with politics in general.

Yep, epitaph hurling from BlackernWhitey, must be a nice day out. Tell us, oh sooooper genius, how is the life of an Obama salad tosser? Nice day out... Wink
They never claimed they were the God party, that was you, Blew.

They were, in fact, a group of sinners, who knew they needed to rely upon God and His mercy, to get through this life, and weren't ashamed to declare it. That isn't to say they thought they are perfect, far from it, but they rely on their relationship with their Lord.

On the other hand, those who refer to them as the "God party" are also a group of sinners. But they wanted to separate, hide or even deny God from social issues, and all things political. Or deny God's existence altogether. Can't be burdened with that. Plus, God evidently has no right to be in D.C.

That's all fine and good, as long as you realize that the First Amendment only protects people from the government impending upon their free-speech. Hearing two opinions on a radio station isn't a "freedom that people have lost."

If you think "true Christians'" work wouldn't include NOT letting this country go to hell in a handbasket, you've got another thing coming. If true Christians continue to allow the country to go down its current path, there won't be a country to worry about. The U.S. will be bankrupt; spiritually, morally and economically.
2 Chronicles 7:14
If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

I find it hard to believe that we have such organizations that want to promote stupid people like Sarah Palin and George W. Bush. And George W. Bush's dad wasn't too bright.

Yeah the Presidents, George HW and George W graduated from the Ivy League (Yale) and George HW Bush graduated in only 3 years! Not too bright huh? Where did you graduate "red"dog?

That father of Bush was a naval officer pilot in WWII. He flew fighter planes off aircraft carriers and fought the Japanese in the Pacific. Shot down over a Japanese occupied island, he evaded capture and was rescued by submarine. Those are not the actions of a stupid man. Nor, were his subsequent career as head of the CIA, VP and President.

However, your comments are those of stupidity, ignorance, or knowing obfuscation.

He's so pathetic that it's hard to know whether to be disgusted with him or feel sorry.
''He's so pathetic that it's hard to know whether to be disgusted with him or feel sorry.''

Pathetic, right winger? I didn't knock old man George Bush's war record or say anything about his war. I was speaking of his presidency and he just wasn't too bright as a president. And he also left us with a big deficit. He had a tendency to stick his foot in his own mouth that hurt him with his own party. You know, like, "read my lips, no more taxes". His own party voted him out.

He wasn't too wise to actually believe the dims when they said they would cut spending if he would "allow them" to raise taxes. He was guilty of being naive. He came from an era when people kept their word, forgetting completely that he was dealing with the modern day dimocrat.
