Eyegor, love the link! I was not even thought of in that era...but I love the picture saying "Matching Sweaters Means Love".
My favorite thing when I was little was also a refrigerator box! I also have a doll that my Nana made for me and gave me the day my little sister was born-I was 3. (So I wouldn't feel left out or forgotten!) I still have that doll on my bed.

Yes, buddy, the Stretch Armstrong did not last too long with my two boys, they loved to stretch him out as far as he could go, Then of course, they had to cut into him with scissors/knives, can't remember, but all that goo stuff came out, it was rally gross!! Thanks for the memories
Ha! I always wondered what was inside Stretch. Mine went to the Salvation Army long before I cut it up. My own kids enjoy cutting the hair off their dolls. I swear they inadvertently turned their Britney Spears Barbie into a voodoo doll because they cut all its hair off. Shortly afterward, Britney shaved her own head. Coincidence? I think not. LOL (I've been searching for a Sarah Palin doll for them to "make over.") Insert evil laughter.
Membah this one?

Anyone remember CLACKERS??
I used to beat my arms black and blue trying
to 'clack' LOL
I had glass clackers before they were outlawed. Whoever thought that toy up?
must have been someone who hated kids...LOL
When they first came out i was told they were invented by a local man...last name Sandlin.
Look them up on wikipedia and you'll see they were never made of glass....it was acryclic. Wiki also gives the decription as them having a ring in the middle to hold on to. The only ones i ever saw or played with just had the string connecting them and you had to tie a loop-knot in the middle of the string to hold between your thumb and first knuckle of your index finger. Tying the knot was tricky...if you got it a little off-center the clackers wouldn't hit right.
When the strings were replaced by sticks they weren't nearly as much fun.

Mine were a homemade pair (by some well meaning neighbor) and they were made of glass. I clacked mine to the breaking point once. LOL

Sounds good but like most local rumors it isn't true so I wouldn't spread it. You can see the patent history for it and the names of the people here --- Link.

i think it's a little late to worry about that since it's been 35+ years...lol.
Since I've heard high school kids being told the same thing when they find a pair in my grandparents' junk drawers, I thought other local people would like to know that it's not true.
I put padding on my arms and wore a coat while
I learned to do it, but I got pretty good at
it.

The stuff inside Stretch Armstrong is corn syrup. I had a baby doll that was filled with that stuff as well, she was my favorite.
You can bust Stretch open, the corn syrup will ooze out, and in a couple of days after it dries you'll have a big piece of candy!
I'm not kidding. A big cardboard box.
Heck, I want one.

the most fun my kids ever had with a 'toy' was when we bought a new refrigerator and they had that HUGE box to play with. They played in that thing for weeks before it tore apart...
my kids also had the Stretch Armstrong...it was really a mess when that green goop srtarted leaking out in the toy closet and got on everything...yuck...luckily, they didn't eat it...LOL

This was my favorite gift (besides the boots my hubby bought me last year) that I ever received. My dad was the coolest. He rigged the elevator so that it ran on electricty and stopped at each floor. I kept it and my kids played with it, too.
The pic disappeared. It was a Barbie Town House - 3 floors with an elevator. A little girl's dream.

I had My Twin dolls made for my daughters that look just like them. They're beautiful, poseable dolls that come with doll outfits and matching clothes for your child. I'll never forget their faces when they opened them.
The company sends out a catalog of matching outfits and accessories for the dolls and your child as well. They will refurbish or change the doll's hair if your child's hairstyle changes.
It's a very nice gift for a 5 - 8 year old child.

So, your 8 yr old is getting a cool gift like that this year? Cool!
glad to hear it

If Stretch's goop was green, I'd demand a refund! It's cornstarch, not an STD! MONEY BACK, yessiree!
LOL too late now
Just what we need: more monet.
Why not a new forum--all monet, all the time. We would only report posts that weren't about monet.

1. Gail-
2. momonet
3. eye-sor
Any others you can think of?

I think that's a great idea...then I wouldn't be called 'Monet' anymore Go for it!
I had baby alive still with me. It is gift from my uncle got on Christmas in my 5th class. But it is not working now. I had Barbie also with me, which all knows.
I still have my daughter's Teddy Ruxpin and her Cricket doll.
The original Trolls, before they got fancy with jewels in their bellybuttons (circa 1960s). The hair fell out of mine, so to replace it I cut some of my hair (from the back of my head so it wouldn't show). Mama was NOT amused and embarrassed the heck out of me at the beauty palor.
anyone ELSE remember actually playing with a Jack-in-the-Box? What about the large metal 'tops' that required pushing down on the 'handle' to get them to spin?
When my Stretch Armstrong's structural integrity was compromised back in the late 70's, the stuff was a dark red and tasted delicious!
Anyone remember the 'astronaut dolls' from the late '60s? What about the HotWheels 'Sizzlers'?
Oh, the simplicity of those days! I'm saddened that today's children do not have these wonderful toys and the creative imagination that we all had. All they know is Nintendo, Guitar Hero, Miley Cyrus and the sort. How wonderful this world would be if we could all go back again -- or at least BRING it all back again. =)
I still have all my Barbies with their high-heeled shoes and diamond rings. I also still have my Strawberry Shortcake dolls, complete with their pets. This thread has been a lovely stroll down memory lane...LOVED me some Lite Brite and Easy Bake Oven!! Thanks guys.

I had both of those! Amazing that we never tired of that crazy Jack popping up.

Oh, I LOVED my little brothers Hot Wheels!! But this was back when girls were not encouraged to play with toys aimed at boys. But when my ex-husband said he wanted a new car for Christmas, a red sports car, I got him a Hot Wheels and gave it to him in a stocking. But I STILL wasn't allowed to play with it!
My 7 year old son got a spirograph and shrinky dinks for Christmas last year. Both were bought at Hobby Lobby. He loved these toys more than his Nintendo DS games. Toys from our childhood are still out there, sometimes they're hard to find though.

They still make them, but they're EXPENSIVE now. I had both when I was a kid and loved them.
