While you are there, walk on down to Trinity church on Pine street. We are having an all day craft fair, bake sale, food sale, white elephant sale. On track to raise $1,000,000 for community outreach. Great place to Christmas shop. Also a kid's fair to entertain the little ones.

On track? Wow...that's huge. WTG.

What is it & what time does it start?

Sorry some thought the options were too limited.

This event will be Saturday and Sunday, October 24 and 25, I think Saturday from 9:00a.m. until 5:30 p.m. (about sunset). Sunday is shorter, I believe 11:00 a.m. until sunset. There is NO admission charge or solicitation for donation, BUT there just might be things you are tempted to spend your money on..expect to see Knights, varlets, swords and battle axes (weapon), Friars, Monks, jugglers and jesters. Historically appropriate music by wandering minstrels.

Honestly, last year was my first time to attend and it is very entertaining. Last year Birmingham had observers attending because they are considering starting their own. The Florence Renaissance Faire is recognized as the State of Alabama's official event of this type.

Location: Wilson park, North of the Florence Post Office.

The answer I want to answer is not there. lol

I would go, but it would be too hard to go without Hubby. He and I were married at the Ren. Festival in 2003. Big Grin WOW! Hard to believe it's almost been 6 years since then! hehe

We try to make it over there every year, for our anniversary, but this year he's at AIT 500+ miles away. *sigh*

Big Grin I really do enjoy the festivities there! Big Grin

All those that go, have a great time! Big Grin

WOW...! ALUMNI... Wink

You should come and bring your digital camera so you can share with your husband when he returns.
Did I mention the crazy guy that goes up a free standing ladder(not a step ladder), about 20 + feet in the air and juggles at the top while balancing the ladder...not for people who can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

I still am not clear about what pixies and fairies, bellydancers, and trolls have to do with the Renaissance. Also, seeing some of our more prominent citizens wearing green leotards and pointed toed slippers can be a disturbing sight.

LOL, i've questioned that myself, but they sure are fun to watch .....and some of the costumes are very imaginative.

The people in the Renaissance era placed great belief in pixies, fairies and trolls. As for bellydancers, during the Renaissance people from the mid-East often visited the Florence, Italy area and with them came bellydancers, which was a favorite form of entertainment.

Back years ago, there were Trekkies that would come in their "uniforms" and wander around. The powers-that-be put a stop to that.... it had nothing to do with the Renaissance. Seems the Trekkies were confusing Renaissance with fantasy.

I particularly like the guy who dresses as the troll (full body makeup, prosthetic nose, fur garment, etc) and wanders around. He is great.

Yep! went Saturday and it was great intertainment for the eye. Lot of people in many different forms of fantasy dress, with some who had put a lot of attention into detail of the character they played.
This is a form of entertaiment for some and nothing else. Some lady was standing on a ladder with a microphone, talking about Jesus and getting saved. No one appeared to give her a second glance. Apparently, she thought the participates of the faire were into something wicked the way they were dressed. To me, individual's like that, do a diservice to the christian faith.
Came back around and she was gone...Police must have told her to take a hike...
